Why mod the lancer?
Why mod the lancer?
I'm pretty new to the car modding world but I have been reading posts here for about two months now before beggining one of my own. I just read one a while ago which included an evo owner's rant of how the lancer is a waste of time to modify. It is either me or a lot of other people who are missing the point. To me, in my brief experience with modding (cold air but a couple nice parts on the way), modifying your car is all about improvement. I love how something as insignificant as a cold air can make me so much more excited to drive my car. The great thing is you only know it is going to get better. I know that people mod for a lot of different reasons (show, race, think they are sweet), but seriously, i just want to have fun. And I seriously doubt many evo owners race their vehicles, which basically makes their modding no different from mine: just improvement. Now I know modding an evo and a us lancer is very different in the performance department, but there is nothing different about the amount of enjoyment i'm capable of getting. In my eyes, it needs to be tasteful though (yeah thats a vague definition). Whatever makes you enjoy YOUR car more. Sorry I can't support evo badges on an oz but still, why would someone be ashamed to own an oz or es? Hell i'm 20 years old and very lucky to have the car to begin with. With that said, I really enjoy this site and the people on it for the most part seem great. Can't wait to go to driving school in June and truly discover the potentials of a modern economy car. Sorry for the book guys, hope someone gives it a read.
An evo owner telling a lancer owner not to mod because "its a waste" is exactly like what those big V8 boys tell all the import guys. Whats the point of modding an evo if you can't make enough horsepower to shake the car and bend the frame? Whats the point of modding an evo if you can't make it into the 8s? To me its very hypocritical.

Yes! I'm liking these attitudes, and I'm for sure a happy new owner. I just wanna say thanks to all the crazy stuff you guys do on these forums. I've been consistently reading these forums for at least an hour a day for two months and there is so much knowledge here. All my questions were basically answered before i've even asked any
hehe glad to hear some of these oppinions. I left the last team/forums i was with b/c youd talk about modding something on your ride ad if it didnt give you at least 20Hp or a full second on the quarter mile or didnt cost 1000$ they flamed you for wanting to do it. I mod my ride b/c i just flat out love working on my car, whether its just changing the spark plugs or doing serious performance work i dont care. The whole point is doing something you like, if you like spending thousands making a sleeper that kicks ***, if you like spending hundreds just to make it look kinda cool then more power to you . . . but if you rebadge your lancer as an evo i will come kick your butt
(kidding) goodluck on whatever you do and dont let the guys that yell "SEARCH" all the time stop you from posting questions, we'll help ya out dont worry.

I love modding my car as well i just hate running into something that i cant install because i dont have the right tools or something that just annoys me because the whole point is learning and working on my car myself..
I would rather install a mod myself and get 5hp then pay a shop to do it and get 10hp. It's just not the point.

i like having my car look different from everyone elses. the originality of the whole thing intrigues me. and i like to see what everyone else is doing. Cars are like art - [i'm an art major]. you do what u want to it for your own pleasure. a form of expression!
