Auto Start on a Manny???
i have a remote start on my manual but i have to arm the car in order to start it, when i get out of the car before i shut it off i have to hit the button then when i shut it off i need to hit it again, then its armed, but if i get into the car before i star twhite its armed it automaticly shuts it off so that the remote will not start it if i hit it.. i cant arm it if the car is in gear or if the e-brake is off, so that way there will be no accidents. oh yea, its a crimestopper RS-999

I never leave my car in gear, doesn't matter where I park. The e-brake holds it just fine. But to install a remote start on a manual transmission car you have to bypass the clutch sensor (try turning the key w/o depressing the clutch). And in most every state it is illegal. I'm planning on getting one tho. Getting up at 5 o'clock and hopping in a cold car is not fun
I have a Hornet by DEI. Works great. I have never parked my car in gear so i dont have to worry about it taking off. There is a switch on the clutch you have to remove to allow the car to start w/out clutching.
Its a must have for cold states

Compustar is legal if installed by certified tech and works fine. The car will not remote start if left in gear. If you want an alternative to a $600+ install and are competent, look on ebay for "arctic start", which is the brand name compustar is sold under in Canada. You will need an Evo specific "bypass module" for it to work with the clutch switch and the OEM start kill system. The arctic start systems have a longer range since they are not FCC regulated, but technically this makes them illegal in the US. If you want an additional safety step against starting in gear, install a magnetic switch on the shifter assembly to detect the neutral position.
if you can get it installed that way (won't start if in gear), then I guess it would work. The shop that installed my alarm told me a story that you should here:
"I had the remote start on my manual and thought it was great because I never left it in gear. Then my brother moved my car without telling me to get his car out of the garage. Since he left it in gear and I didn't know he moved it, my car went thru the garage door." - -- the installer himself (who I've known for years)

I have the viper 791xv and I love it!!!!! I can start my car and it will be warmed up by the time I get in it. Also tried to remote start the car with the e-brake on and it will not start just lunge and then die. Why go outside when it is freezing to start your car when you don't have to
As always controversy!!! LOL i luuuuv it! Thanks for all your input guys! Just a thought, cuz boy does it suck getting into a cold *** car! I live about 20 minutes from chicago and these lakes give off the craziest cold front! Thanks again!
I forget who it was, but someone from SCLC has had it on his manual for over 2 years now, and had no problems. Yes, he had to get creative and bypass the clutch sensor, and I don't think he ever lets anyone drive his car. I would have thought the car would stall before moving very far if remote started in gear, but apparently that's not the case. I'm just glad I live in Cali and a 60 second warm-up is plenty.
And to all those who think the e-brake is sufficient to hold your car in any situation, you must not have taken a look under your car to see how small and exposed the cable is. I have a neighbor who's e-brake cable snapped over night and his car rolled down our hill and through the fence into the wash!
