Class Action Law Suit?
My 03 Lancer (bought in Feb) is chipping like crazy, i take extemely good care of the outside and even avoid driving behind other vehicles and this morning i checked and im missing paint on both sideskirts and the front bumper. I will be going to my dealer. if they dont help, count me in.

Is the chipping problem only on the US lancer? Like, is the paint that cheap on an Eclipse that is built in the States? Maybe they don't adjust the paint quantity and quality to the weather we live in? Maybe it's good enough for Japan and around. But, it's still cheap!
Peace!

Pearl paint is crap
I have the Pearl paint on my 02 Lancer and probably upwards of 200 paint chips. Tiny corrosion pits litter my cars hood and I have lost most of the paint on my skirts. My friend owns a body shop and is gonna help me out with getting my car repainted. Thought you might like to know that his Dad has been in the industry for 40 years and says both the Lancer and eclipse rank top 5 for worst origonal paint hes ever seen. My 90 chevy s-10 has 140k miles on it and less paint issues than my Lancer. Dealership also told me to deal with it that its normal wear and then wanted to argue with me about paint quality of all new vehicles. Too bad quality is no longer priority for import car manufacturers. If you decide to go with a class action suit I'm in.
I too am getting those damn little brown rusty spots on the side of the car and back...wtf...let me know if your gonna do this cause i want compensation or sumthin...shouldn't have to go through this with a brand new car...
I've had my car about ten months (red 03 OZ) and i've got 2 small spots on my hood that are actually down to the metal. I don't see any sign of a primer beneath so i'm wondering if they even use it w/ these modern paints. Anyway I saw my dealer's maint. guy last week and he used the phrase "road debris" which sounds like some standard approach to handling these complaints. He pointed out some other trouble spots himself and said it looked like something like tree sap was causing all the damage. I don't park anywhere near trees so he's going to call me when the main rep from Mitsu is back in town and get his opinion and see if it's a trend or something.
I can't wait. It's obvious the paint job is as cheap as they thought they could get away with and the clear coat IF ANY was WATER SOLUBLE. I suspect there will be no effort to address this until you're 99% of the way to your law suit. If it comes to that i'm down as well.
Mitsubishi; It's a love/hate thing!!

I installed mud flaps behind the front tires on my OZ and that has greatly improved the appearance of the sides in terms of mud and scratches/chips. But my hood just gets worse and worse - I've only had the car since January and I've got hundreds of small chips and dimples and the small brown spots that look like rust covering the first 6 inches or so of the hood.
I think eventually, I'll have to have this repainted sometime in the next year or so, lest it start rusting, but it's a shame since getting Labrador Black painted again with the blue specks will cost a ton. Why does so nice looking of a paint job have to be so bad at lasting?

I have a chip on my front passenger door. Took it to the Dealer (CarMax) and they tried to do a touch up twice. DO NOT ACCEPT A TOUCH UP!! It looks like crap. I have to reschedule to get the whole door painted. We'll see what's up after it is painted.
Ok the rust spots some of you are seeing is probably rail dust,f you live near a train track, or steel mill, its lands on the paint and inbeds its self,A clay bar should help but after teflon coat it,trust me its good ****.I had the same problem once,on my eclipes but mitsu fixed it after I took it to a bodyshop.my 99 mirage,105,000 miles before I totled it, not one rock chip or peel, but I bought right after it came from the factory, could t be some of your cars sat in the sun to long on the lot,or through weather changes.Of the paint really peels on my car now-IN THE JUNK YARD!!!!that makes me sad to think about
