Class Action Law Suit?

After dealing with the regional rep at Mitsubishi today, I'm beginning to wonder if legal action is going to be necessary to get the paint fixed on our cars...

I'm being told that paint lifting is as result of not taking care of the car, and that paint chips are normal wear and tear. He offered to repair the lifting paint only if I would sign papers releasing Mitsubishi from future paint claims on the warranty.

I believe we all have a reasonable expectation that our new cars will stand up to highway driving, and that the paint will adhere to the car.

Any input is appreciated.

I'm gonna move this to general so you get a bit more exposure even though it's paint related. Have you spoken to a lawyer or gotten any legal advise? I'm thinking that'd be your next step?

i do have to say that the paint on my car is substandard. This is my 3rd car and by far the worst handler of road debris and chipping. The ol 96 sunfire that i drove in HS didnt have as many chips in it after it being 4 yrs. old than my car afer 1 winter.

I'm trying to gage interest before I go and talk to people... my family attorney used the phrase "reasonable expectations" for performance, and mentioned that it's their responsibility to show that proper care was not done, rather than our burden to show that it was. Mentioned that showing the car was well-cared-for doesn't hurt either.

and I agree, the paint is substandard. I was going to get it repainted this summer. I detail my car myself every other time, but it gets a full detail every other week. the detail runs about $75. this shop is known in DFW for quality work. it's incredibly expensive but it's nice. they detail ferrari's, z06 vette's etc.
if you'd like I can get it in writing that the paint is substandard, or atleast try from the body shop that painted my bumper, they said that the paint is cheaper than a kia...

I would jump on board if it would get new paint put on. I've heard of the paint discoloring as well as chipping. I have a chip on my left rocker panel.. and NOBODY gets in on that side cause i'm single atm :\

Is the chipping problem only on the US lancer? Like, is the paint that cheap on an Eclipse that is built in the States? Maybe they don't adjust the paint quantity and quality to the weather we live in? Maybe it's good enough for Japan and around. But, it's still cheap!

I saw one at the dealer yesterday that got 3 chipping spot on the front bumper, and the car never run in the street....

Peace!

They're probably the same cars, but my Canadian Lancer as the same problem. My hood is horrible and they can't say I don't take care of my car. I wash it pretty much every week, I even clean the interior on red lights.
