I didn't even have time to check my wallet.
****! I was just about to call him tonight.
When did he say they would be ready? What percentage of the total amount did you have to pay upfront?
Ah well, lets hope we don't get the GT-A over here. Gasp! I said it..

I had to pay the full amount up front, $30,000. For that type of deal, that's totally understandable.
I spoke extensively with Adam, and he said that they will ship within 2 to 3 weeks from Sweden, but since I am in California, I will have to wait until August for the CARB paperwork to finish. Oh well, at least I'll be able to drive down and see the car and take pics, hopefully ;-)
Karl
I guess I don't see why you would have to pay up front. Isn't that what EI is in business for? If you are paying up front, what are they doing besides taking money off the top? Afterall its the RI that is doing most the work. If you were working directly with the RI and made all the contacts in Sweden yourself, then I could see buying it direct, but you have a business who's sole purpose is doing that, and they are making money from it.
Im not saying that they (EI) don't do any work. Obviously they are setting up the whole deal, but its their responsibility to put up the initial capital to get the business, not their customers. You don't charge a customer until you deliver the end product.
Who is putting up the bond on these cars ($45000)?
For piece of mind I would make a call to the Registered Importer to verify all the details. Their number can be found here:
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/RiHT0108.htm
Although I think the business practice is very poor, I do hope you guys get the cars. They certainly are awesome. I am sure Karl knows more anyway, since he has the inside scoop on them (He ovbiously got the information on this deal from someplace else than this forum). I would like to see all this paperwork. I really hope someone gets this pulled off, so I can put my money down for my own.

Karl, DEFINATELY make sure to take pictures when they arrive
Russ, I see where you're coming from. Putting that much down is a pretty large amount, but I think EI doesn't ask for the full amount, although it's a large amount. The contract also states that if the car does not arrive in a reasonable amount of time the customer can have his money returned.
Let's hope these cars get here soon w/o problems!

Wow wow wow hold your horses there, 1st of all I ONLY got the information on this deal from Evolution Imports' post above. It was really weird. One day (tuesday) I decided to check out the Lancer Forums (found from Google) to read about the new Evo7 in the US, and I stumbled on this post from the main page (Latest posts). Intrigued, I clicked on it. When I read the post, I immediately called EI and left a message. An hour later, Adam called me back, and we spoke for 1 hour. 4 hours later, my decision was made, and I called him back to request the red car w/ decals, and got it. I was the 2nd guy to own one of those cars. A day later, all the cars were already taken. So I was really lucky there.
Also, as far as $$$ is concerned, in no way am I dealing with EI. I am dealing directly with RalliArt Sweden, who have the cars. EI needs those 3 cars to go along with their others for D.O.T testing and CARB emissions. They are not there to make any money off the deal at all, they just NEED those cars to be here FAST to start the testing. Had they charged $45K for them, it would've taken them much longer to get them. Instead, EI figured that they could forgo 3 cars at cost, because if the testing works out good, that could mean lots of future business for EI.
Call Adam for more details, he can speak to you about this.
But in any case, I sincerely hope that the cars will arrive here with no problems. I still need to call Adam and ask him a few questions.
Karl
so u sent your money directly to mitsu of sweden?
and spoke to them about your purchase?
i don't understand how this thing works.
the cars are not even approved by the dot yet, are they?

The cars will be approved by the DOT, but not yet, that's why they need a certain amount of cars here in the US for DOT to perform work.
Basically it works like this:
1. reserve the car through EI
2. pay Mitsu Sweden
3. Cars get shipped to Santa Ana, CA.
4. They stay at a performance shop, where they will be dyno tested and slightly modified to accomodate DOT (MoTec ECU, vapor nozzle in fuel tank (or whatever that was, I forgot), and some other tidbits, nothing major.
5. CARB paperwork will need to be filed, at least for me, cuz I am in CA. That takes the longest time, that's why it will take until August or so.
But if you lived outside CA, you could take the car almost right away, after they are done their test.
Again, PLEASE call Adam for more details, I am afraid to have missed some points, and don't want to spread a wrong idea.

Karl,
Did EI say that crash test of VII was required?
So what modification of the front bumper was needed....
Again.... lucky you.
Did the import law in CA expired?
I thought cars 2 years or newer cannot be registered in CA.

Karl,
My point was exactly as you re-affirmed. You are not dealing or paying money to Evolution Imports directly. You are instead paying Mitsu Sweden. What this means is that EI does not have money of their own to front the expense of it. In the grand scheme of a business (like this) $100K is not a lot of money. What I am saying is that I believe they should front the cost and only charge the customer when the car is delivered (other than say a $5000 deposit).
I will say, that I do believe Evolution Imports are good folks and honestly would like to accomplish what they set out to do. I feel that since they are still working on this 8 months later, they must have a good game plan. I just don't like the way they are going about it. It is the same way many scams take place. Im not accusing them of a scam, but based on the Hennessey posting, you just never know these days.
My recommendation is to contact the RI directly. They have the only, and all the power in importation. That link in my other post, lists all the RI the country. Only people on that list can import and certify cars. Remember that this is your car (your paying for it), so going over the details with the RI directly would be the best thing to do. I would suggest a conference call involving you, the RI, and Evolution Imports at once. I don't see any way that could not be reasonable, especially since you are basically investing in EI business.
Also the car must be on the approved list. Currently the Lancer, Mirage, and Evo are missing from the list. Even if the RI uses a loophole to get around the crash test, they still need request the car to be put on the list by the NHTSA. Even cars that are 100% identical to cars sold in the US need to be on this list if they were imported.

Note the Nissan GT-R in the list. Thats the skyline via Motorex.
As I said before I really hope this comes through, and would be very exciting. I just wanted to provide people the info they need and give my opinion (as a business owner myself).
I had my money all set (bank approval and everything) and told EI "where do I send the money," and they never responded back (months ago for the EVO VII) so forgive me if I have a few doubts, but I really do believe they are good people.
If you do conference with the RI (I know who it is but you should really get that info from EI), let us all know the details. Of course the details that are reasonable. I'm sure they don't want to tell us all the details, or there is no reason for them to be in business.
Sorry for that really long post.
