radar detectors

I live in Florida I'm not sure how legal they are here (then again, not much of my car will be legal). Can someone reccomend a GOOD (not hitting every automatic door) company for radar detectors?

I had gone almost 7 years without a ticket before moving to Florida. I've been here almost 4 years now and I've received 4 tickets....... Popping into a little lancer after driving trucks for 10 years seems to be getting me into trouble.... THanks for any advice.

the valentine 1 is alright but wayyyyyy over priced and the passport can do jsut as good. combinded with a blinder m-20 you would be unstopable in being able to slow down before they can catch you.!

All that I have heard about those are that they are way over priced at bestbuy and don't work nearly as well as the passport or v1. Here is a site that I found helpful when comparing radar detectors.

ive heard from numerous people that the Beltronics radar detectors are the best. but they're up in the $200+ range. i'd get one but i can't afford it. i have a Cobra and it sucks. it goes off every 20 seconds.

as for legality, i read on a site a couple years ago, and it said that radar detectors are perfectly legal in all states EXCEPT for Virginia and D.C. they are illegal in all states if they are used commercial vehicles.

when you do get one make sure it detects the new POP radar mode. thats how i got my last 2 tickets because my Cobra doesn't detect that mode. Hope this help.

blinder m-20 is a proven laser jammer. It has been proven time and time again to work and I have one on my car and I can vouge that it does indeed work. you use it in conjunction with your radar/laser detector. when your alarm goes off saying you got hit with laser, normally the cop already knows you are speeding, with the m-20, you slow down, shut off the m-20, and the cop pics up your new, slower speed. works great. if you leave it on though, he will get suspicious because he will not get any signal on you at all.

use that website for all of your laser/radar needs, its awesome, good prices, and ran by an ex-cop/Laser/radar professional trainer, all products he sells he also reviews using real equipment. quite nice. I would reccoment the beltronics as well, forgot about them, the V1 is just to expensive to justify it.

I've got a BEL, it's a couple years old and it hasn't let me down ever. It was about $175, but with your average ticket being $100 and eventually costing you more in insurance premiums, $200 is nothing for extra protection.

I've heard good things about Escorts and Valentines, but I just wasn't willing to shell out another $100.

You get what you pay for and a cheap radar detector is an annoyance because of all the false alerts you get.

I believe radar detectors are legal everywhere except for Virginia and DC. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

FYI, for those traveling in PA, only state police are allowed to use radar for speed detection. The locals and counties use everything else, so don't just rely on your detector. Of course, if you are practicing "safe speeding", you always are paying attention.
