Exhaust is too loud!

so i finally put my custom exhaust on with pipes comin out on the side n its louder than when i had the stock srt-4 pipes on my base neon... the flippin notes pop at idle which make me real nervous when i drive around heavily patrolled areas... hell even driving past officers the other way. so i'm definitely gonna have to get another resonator on there but the problem is i don't have any more room so i might jus go back to the stock exaust. performance wise, I'd have to say there is like an extra two lbs. of torque added to my baby but the noise police are gonna get me. ANY questions or comments welcome

Running straight pipes on a non-turboed car is your problem.

yes i realize that I don't have a turbo...yet. i did mount a glasspack on there thoughwhich took away the "riceburner" effect that some of you like to call it. Its probably the equivelant of having straight 2.5 and a magnaflow... just more pops between shifts... pics and vids coming soon so don't go menstral folks!

Yes it's due to the lack of backpressure. Lots of people complain about the same problems when they put a test pipe on their NA cars.

Yes , you should never run straight pipes on an NA 4 cylinder car. Without the backpressure of the cat and possibly even a pre muffler, the scavenging affect is lost and chances are you will lose power. On a turbo car the opposite is true since air is already being forced in the engine, the scavenger affect is not needed.

My car is pretty damn zippy, header, testpipe, catback. I think you have to be able to fool with the fuel like I do to get anything out of a straight exhaust.

nah no matter what you shouldn't run such a wide exhaust on a 4 cyl. 2.25 of madrel piping is more than sufficient. Even running turbo, 2.25 is good enough, unless you're going to pump up the PSI.

You think that's loud. On my Mirage I have a 3" coming off the o2 housing that goes right in front of my drivers side wheel. I'm only boosting 10lbs and I have to roll the window up when I'm riding next to curbs or walls.

But when people **** me off like riding next to each other for mile or so. I do me a good ole 40mph burn out next to them with my exhaust in there window.

I have a 6" CF can on my bike (I sawed it off) for an exhaust and I can't ride next to a barrier or I'll rupture my ear drums. I feel sorry for the a-holes in the cars on my exhaust side when I'm right up along side of them. I'm tunring 7 grand at 80mph on the freeway. Imagine that in your ear.
