is there a how-to on the ducting from the fenders? seems like quite a task.

Stupid forum won't let me repost the pic so here it is from a thread. That's the prefect size filter ducting is mandatory (vents through the front fender, reduces intake temps by 30-40 degrees depending on speed and ambient temps).
You still don't know how to hotlink?

Meh- me forgotty bout hotlinky

I can't give you a comparison becuase it's the only filter I've had on there (not counting the Fram cone for a week while waiting for this to arrive- but that was like 3 years ago).

The main thing about the ducting is removing all the plastic crap permanently from the driver side. Then remove the vent cover in the fender. There's a "ram air" thread, too.

it's not the dirtiness that i'm concerned about; it's the quality of the actual filter. I have the ebay filter on there currently, and to me that seems just a little better than having a coffee filter.

I have a K&N and after buying it, I swear Ill never use a cheapo mesh filter again.
Buy it to go with the diameter of the intake pipe u have.
K&N is a serious difference. The typical mesh air filters are restrictive.
