Then 2.5" piping works just fine in your application- getting from point A to point B. If you're someone who wants to travel 1320 feet as fast as your car will take you, then I'll guarantee that your 2.5" piping is making you slower than you would be if you had 2.25" piping (unless you're turbo- I'm not talking about that).

Anyway, it's sort of moot because I don't know for a fact that the orig poster has 2.5" and I only spoke to the need for some kind of restriction (the cat being the most effective restriction to have- it keeps you mostly legal and keeps you from smelling like crap).

I hate to be the old codger to pull this card, but you guys who are starting to investigate modification need to take a look at the information us old guys posted a long time ago. Much of it is stickied and if you serch for your topic (like "exhaust") with one of our names (there's a name field in the advanced search tab), you'll find several of us going back and forth with pros and cons of each mod so you can really decide for yourself what YOU WANT to do based on what WE'VE already DONE. This is a really easy-to-use forum if you take the time to use it.

I'll tell you form experience that the more often we see a topic that's been covered a million times we get more and more snippy and just resport to yelling "search" with as much rancor as possible.

I took the roller things off too, no problems. I always thought they were used somehow in shipping the vehicle.

I put my Magnaflow catback (2.25) on without having the supporting intake mods and boy was that disapointing, then I had to take it to the stealership for something and the service guy even said, "boy, I bet you lost a lot of torque with that exhaust" and then he proceeded to tell me how the lancer needs the backpressure. Now with all the mods I have it runs great but it was frustrating waiting and doing mods one at a time. If I could do it all over the exhaust would be one of the last things I would do. Its just not that necessary for NA.

I dont know about you guys, but over 200HP on an auto is doable and I would think pretty nice, I don't know what lancer2show is saying unless he has a Dodge Viper he's not telling us about. There are a lot of FI guys on here with autos that are very happy with the performance, hell, I dont think mine is too shabby and I haven't touched internals yet.

sdhes- I've been modding the car for 4 years now (holy crow!) and I JUST did my exhaust last month. I'm glad I waited.

lancerboy: you're missing the point of all of our advice- you're already flowing too much. Put the stock cat back where it belongs.

Thats the way to do it , I wish I would have done it that way. Just slap the fart cannon on and do everything else first

I was surprised when I did the cat back. I used a flowmaster 40 series and was kind of dreading the "fart can" sound but it sounds like a freaking stock car no farts and only a little rattle in first above 4K RPM. The guys I autcross with and my neighbor are really impressed at how mean the car sounds and I haven't had any problem with cops. There was actually an improvement across the powerband (as measured by the thoroughly accurate "butt dyno." ) Nice.

I've had Flowmaster before, they do sound good. "Low mellow tone" They do too, I think they might sound better than Magnaflow.

I dont know, the magnaflow does sound pretty damn good. I like to roll all my windows down and drive around in lower gears just to hear it. But I also only have the magnaflow axelback and a short ram.

Dont get me wrong, I have Magnaflow cat back and I love the sound, but I think, and I am basing this off of memory, that the Flowmaster has a little deeper of a tone.

The answer has barely anything to do with engineering...
The reason why you "feel" fast on the street versus on the track, is cus on the track your perception is wider when your driving.
On the street, your vision is narrowed due to the surroundings and roads.
So everything seems to come towards you alot quicker.

wtf? That's like saying "I feel slower on the freeway because there are alot more buildings on sidestreets..."

If you are trying to make a "street vs. strip" type point, I'd say it is because everyone else on the street is doing the limit while you are going a little past it, whereas you wouldn't feel as fast on the strip when someone is right next to you flooring it too.
