waste-spark, not wastegate spark. it's the type of ignition system we have. 2 sparkplugs per coil. iridium, double platinum, or copper core are alright. V-tip NGK's ftw.

Don't bother with iridium or platinum, just get what is stock. Back when I was young and dumb I went with iridiums. I ended up paying something like 80$ for the plugs and they didn't last any longer or help my idle any more than 30$ stock plugs. Save your money and go with stock, you'll feel less like a rape victim that way.

My Lancer actually came with the NGK iridiums and they ran perfect..that should tell you something.
Yeah I know, I'm just tired of all these new threads by noobs that ask about the best spark plugs, engine swaps, gay sex, etc..

you really won't want better/different plugs until you're either boosted, upped the compression, or running nitrous.

alright, so if platinums dont last any longer i guess ill go w/the stock ones. i guess i could go for the coppers. they prob arent expensive. im doing intake so that prob wont make a diff. i just hate these bosches. i took off a plug wire and this white smoke came out. is that normal? my valve cover is really hot. My temp sensor is normal though. so i dunno whats goin on.

The valve cover should be hot, not sure about the white smoke though.

Hey

thx guys. will those ngk platinums add more heat than stock ngks? or be more efficient. I want as low heat as possible after dealing w/these bosches.

The plugs will do nothing for heat, all they do is provide the spark.

if you want to do some homework, check out the sparkplug manufactuers model code sheet. colder plugs will conduct heat better and lower combustion temperatures but may extinguish the flame some and/or cause fouling of the plugs. 10:1 though, stock is all you need. if you're not boosting or modified in such a way, don't fool yourself into thinking you need different plugs.

Because +4s are crap. If you're relying on spark plugs to solve your temperature woes (which I don't think are a problem) you'll find yourself surprised very quickly.

Bottom line - if all you want is plugs that'll last longer than 30k, you're a moron.

You're supposed to change your plugs every 15k. It's not that hard. It takes 10 minutes, and you can get a set of decent plugs for under $10. Not a bad investment to keep your car running well...
