Lancer holding me back?

So guys I have been thinking...Why do I spen so much on my car and I am still slow as crap. Just this last week or so I decided to get my racing harts powdercoated with new tires, also I still need a rear bumper to go with my ken style front and side skirts that are still not painted and just sitting in my garage. Last night I thought about getting a $1000 loan to finish the exterior.

I still may do it but I have also been thinking of using that $1000 for a beater car. Most likley an older honda like an eg hatch. I really dont have the $ to insure 2 cars and if I ever did get an eg I would prob do a k20 or b18 swap and just sell the lancer.

I know I am not the only one who feels this way sometimes. I know I have a pretty cool car but my lancer just dissapoints me every once in a while.

The main reason I am making this thread is because you guys might talk some sense into me. I really dont want to get rid of my car.

Do what you want to do man. If you don't like your car then go with something else. When I start to doubt I just drive my girlfriends Lancer which has nothing done to it and realize how much better mine is. Sure I maybe have 20hp on her but it makes a difference.

Well man, What you speak of is true.Lancer is sluggish,BUT its a fun car.and everyone and their mom mods hondas....i can understand why.But i would rather have a car that is not seen on the road every ten minutes.

Just keep modding, maybe with that 1000 loan you can save for a turbo.

Turbo is out of the picture for now. I cant justify spending $4000 as a college student barley scraping by. I guess its really just the money problem that has got me down. A new job is really what I need.

im with gab. hondas r cheap and cheap to fix, but, inorder to have a honda that stands out like a lancer looks wise u have to put a tom of money into the body, then where is your cash for the mods coming from.
im a college student also and thought about switching to a honda but i couldent stand to have a car that looked the same as the other fifteen i saw while i left the parking structure.
so its kind of up to u, u can have a fast *** car that looks like everyone else, or u can keep the lancer that is slower than the honda but grabs more attention with the looks. but in the end its what ever makes you happy.

P.S. if u do look into something new and u like the civic engin but want a lil more style look at integras. jus my preference

STI SLayer, I guess you got a pretty fast ES huh?

The 99 Hatch I believe is very rare. Or that model. Or even a 92. You don't see them that often, and I have heard good news with them.

I can also tell you about the Integra. They are rare too, but some are pricey.

You will have to see what your funds are. Search the cars you would want, and do your homework. If I add Intake, headers, and cams to this car, I would get this much HP for this much money.

See where I'm going. Might seem hard, but think about it. It will be your daily driver, and you want to make sure is reliable too.

I love the Lancers too. SO Rare. I only see about 1 a day. IF THAT!! But it has been holding be back from my friends. Even a 200k mile Honda can beat me. But I still love my Lancer and admire all the money I put into. I became attached and want to stay in the down low for now until I get serious power(saving for turbo)

Not easy thou. Hope it helps, Just do your homeowrk. Will the car be reliable, "fast", cheap, etc.

You wouldn't be so slow if you had a set of 15 or 16 inch rims instead of those 18s.
And got rid of all that "ICE" in your trunk:
760 watt Pioneer amp
Two 12" MTX thunder 4000's
Custom made speaker box plexi glass windows

Taking out a $1000 loan to pay for exterior mods
If you concentrated more on your performance from the beginning I don't believe you would have started this thread.
I haven't noticed any turboed Lancer owners complaining.

Try to find a DSM AWD.

I'm going to be honest, and forgive me I haven't read all replies.

I was in a similar situation with my last car. It was an '03 Tiburon, and I got the four banger with dreams of going turbo in the future. I loved the car, Hyundai or not, and got it looking hot. I put about three grand of performance mods into it, and then finally splurged and bought the turbo.

Sadly, the task of installing it was a little out of my league (you needed to drill into the block for an oil line, remove the head gasket, etc). I shopped around for an install place, and found one place that would do it for $1200. A few days later he called and said he couldn't do it because he'd need to remove a cat, and couldn't risk it. Personally, I think he realized what was really required and knew he'd be losing money, but that's just me. The next place I went to, The Shop here in CT, wanted close to four grand for the install.

More places began quoting three grand installs, so I had to put on the brakes and started thinking. Did I really want to throw so much money into a car that wouldn't be street legal, could probably never pass emissions, and that would still be fwd (read: torque steer). I loved the car, and had put so much effort into it I didn't want to see it go.

Then came a day when I test drove an Evo MR. WOW. Not only did it have the performance and handling, it looked bada** and was respected by a lot of people. That, and it had been my dream car for quite some time (read my posts regarding Initial D and Team Emperor lol).

Alas, I parted ways with the Tiburon without ever installing the turbo kit. I'm currently in the process of selling it, so I'm already making my money back, AND have the satisfaction of owning one hell of a ride.

Only you know what you want to do. If you love your car and want to stick with it, go right ahead. All I'm saying is that if you decide to trade it in and move up, you're going to love that one as well.

See? Don't I look happy?

...and the shirt says "Prison Break" since people simply NEED to know lol

If your "barely scraping by" you shouldn't be throwing your money into a car.
Maybe you should just stop modding, stick with the Lancer for the time being, and get a much better car when you receive your degree and a better paying job.

I did get rid of the ICE so dont worry. Yeah its really not that my car is slow that bothers me, I like my 18's. I know this was a pointless thread, I just wanted to know if I was the only one who felt like this every once in a while.

And even though I am scrapping by how do you expect me to stop modding? I mean I have slowed down but i dont think I will ever stop.

Enough now so that I can comfortably afford an Evo. And yes, I too had to bide my time and pay my dues to reach the magical insurance-drop age of 25.

But I'm not saying this guy has to get an Evo...just figured since this was a Lancer board and all lol

My point is that I was in the same situation, and realized after a LOT of thinking that getting a better car was the smartest choice to make. And while I sure do miss my old car, hell I admit it, I shed a tear when I took it for its last ride, I can't tell you how much I love the new one.

College student? Limit yourself to minor mods to help learn cars, then wait to you graduate and bag a good job. Then go buy an Evo or another high performance car. You wont look back. That was my path.

I think everybody with a lancer is in the same situation as you. Let's be honest here, no one buys a lancer because it's their dream car, they buy it because it's the best they can afford. You sound like you're pretty close in age to me (21) so I'll tell you my plan, I'm keeping the lancer till I'm 25 if possible. In the mean time I'm gonna do whatever the hell I want to it regardless of how fast it actually becomes. By the time I reach 25 I'll 1. get the insurance drop 2. be making considerably more money (should have a masters degree by then) and 3. I will have learnt enough with the lancer to be able to mod a more serious car, like an evo or a subaru. You could spend all day pining about a faster car, but in the end it won't get you anywhere, no matter what you drive there will always be something faster and better. The key is to make what you have something you like.

Okay, well i'm pretty much in the same situation as you, the lancers my first car and i know it can't keep up with my cuz's civic but my car is still respected. I wanted an Evo so bad after I got into my Lancer (and i still do) but let's not be stupid here. I'm in my first year of college and i decided to keep my lancer until i finish and (like you need to) find a paying job where you can at least pay for the insurance for the better car. For now man my best advice would be to use your slow car as an advantage to keep you out of accidents from street racing, keep your record clean and stay away from the average $500 ticket. play it smart and when you finish college you will be much more happier that you waited, good things come with time.

As for the lancer, play around with it, learn to mod correctly and most importantly learn to drive smart take care, most ppls advice on here look to be the same and PLSSS we all beg you, dont downgrade to a civic, hondas sux major ***** lol!!!!
