Lancer holding me back?

You sound like you're pretty close in age to me (21) so I'll tell you my plan, I'm keeping the lancer till I'm 25 if possible. In the mean time I'm gonna do whatever the hell I want to it regardless of how fast it actually becomes. By the time I reach 25 I'll 1. get the insurance drop 2. be making considerably more money (should have a masters degree by then) and 3. I will have learnt enough with the lancer to be able to mod a more serious car, like an evo or a subaru. You could spend all day pining about a faster car, but in the end it won't get you anywhere, no matter what you drive there will always be something faster and better. The key is to make what you have something you like.

anywho, ive obviously upgraded, but you know what? i may have a lot more power and features the my lancer, but the lancer was more fun to drive, and untill i make my bimmer as fun as my lancer, ill always have that on my mind everytime i back outta my garage.
long story short, you could have a stock corvette and kick *** in all situations, but theres something about owning a car you modify and customise yourself that brings out a bigger sense of pride.
its when your sedan starts having so many problems you end up spending more on the car in repairs the what its worth. Hence me upgrading
i didnt want to drop 3 grand on a new tranny when the car is worth 8k
we really are all in the same situation. just be patient. im 21 and in school now and planning on keeping the lancer till i'm 25 so i'm more settled.
notice though that every once in a while someone posts in the evo forums selling their car because they bought it too soon. to me thats so much worse than waiting with your lancer and knowing you can relax somewhat when you spend 35k on a mitsubishi

hey i know this thread is sorta finished but i wanna say im in a similar boat, 18 years old, second yeah uni(2007) and have no money, well i have $4000 in the bank but that has to goto insurance :S, but yeah ive just been doing cheap diy mods, such as incar and under car ccfl/led;s, dash and door trim and caliper spaying etc. but i no my car isnt tha fastest but it isnt slow...
so yeah this is my plan, i was(still maybe am) going to get a turbo kit, but now im thinking of saving that money till late 2008 and trading in my lancer(but i dont know if i can let her go) for the new ralliart - AWD trubo and then slowly modding that ... yeah ...

like was said and ill say it again, everythingg been covered but heres my take anyway.
I like the lancer. im not gonna take a 3 grand loss on a trade in and it can be a fun little car when done right. Theres none up here in maine and people really pay attention when it pulls into a show because they never see them done up at all.
I enjoy driving it even though its underpowered, a bit heavy and fwd. I work to improve the car and have what fun I can with it. simple as that. good learner car. gotta start somewhere.
