I've driven 50km easy with that light on. That being said, I wouldn't do it if you had the choice. I was trying for a 600 km tank, finally gave up and refilled at 550something. It depends on where you drive too, my light will come on because I park on a steep incline, but when I get to level roads, it'll shut off.

 

I've filled up at 12.5 gallons before but I was in the middle of nowhere with no gas

 

god i pretty much just drive with the light on ....

id say about 50-55 miles

 

When my yellow light comes on, I have about 3 gallons left in my 13 gallon tank, but refer to my signature for a more in depth explanation.

 

mine fills up at 10.4 usually, and i've drivin 70 miles with the light on before, lucky me i didn;t run out of gas,

 

on my old `01 lancer. when the light turned on, it meant i have about 30 miles left.

 

ive gone over 50 miles before i put more gas in... I didn't run out...

 

 

Ok........ i tested my car plenty of times to know this.......well we all know we have something like a 13.8 gallon tank right. Whenever my gas light goes on......and i go to fill it up....i fill up something like 10.5-10.8 gallons, so that means.....UP TO ...3 gallons left. I have does this numerous times.....and calculate my average.....sometimes i get like 250 miles before my gas light comes on.....sometimes i get like 280.........so i do a little math......so i waste 10. something gallons and get like 270...so i average about 27 miles a gallon city and street. THe most i've pushed my car was filing up with a little over 11 gallons. I'm too scared to push it till it runs almost dry

so yeah i have done this repeatedly over the course of 2 years, and it's the same almost every time

 

The 08 has a 15.3 gal tank and the light seems to come on when it calculates you have less than 40 miles left. however i got this warning, drove for 25 miles. filled up only 13 gallons... made no sense. has a digital display only for fuel tank level so who knows how much is actually in there. it'd be nice if they'd just put an exact number on it rather than a large clunky bar that moves in large increments.

 

Mine definitely does not have 3 gallons left when the light comes on. I have 35 highway miles tops, about 20 in the city. I start counting it when the light comes on permanently, not when it comes on for a short time if you've been driving up a mountain or pushing it. Yesterday I got caught in rush hour with no gas, and made a wrong turn in maryland, and had to coast into chevron due to my car getting louder and nearly dieing.

I have a question- Why in the manual does it state that running out of gas can damage the catalytic converter?

 

Just tested it 2008 Lancer light went on first just red warning light then yellow warning light after 30 miles from time light first went on and I went another 20 miles before refueling a total of 50 miles and was only able to put 14.3 miles until full with a 15.3 gallon tank I could have went another 20 or so miles so about 70 miles all together.play it safe and stick to 50-60 miles.
