Question 08 Lancer, Differnce between Navigation&Technology Package VS Navigation w/ audio kit

What is the differnce between the Navigation & technology package VS the Navifation w/ audio kit? I noticed that you cant get the Navigation and technology package without getting Sun and Sound. THe price for those two together is 1500+2000= $3500, while the Navigation w/ audio kit is $2840. What is the differnce between the two?

S&S gives you a 650 watt stereo with a 10" woofer in the trunk. And the sunroof, obviously.

If you just get the Nav kit, you have all the features included with that. The site has decent explanations of what's in each package.

The Nav & Audio kit includes the GPS and the HDD musicserver. Possibly the Rockford/Fosgate stereo without the sunroof. The Nav & Tech package has GPS & musicserver plus the FAST key system for keyless entry/starting. So the difference in price gets you the sunroof & the FAST key.

A lot would depend on personal preference. Now that I've got it, I like having the FAST key even though I was leery when I first got it. It works well and it's nice not having to take my keys out of my pocket to get in the car or start it. The sunroof is DEFINITELY worth it, but I'm a windows down/wind in my hair kind of person.

I suspected as much, but even with the Navigation+Sun and Sound, it's still cheaper then the Navigation w/ Audio Kit, which is what made me confused.

As a side note, dealerships offer aftermarket in-dash navigation systems that are cheaper than if you purchased the factory Mitsu one. The dealership here offered me either the JVC or Pioneer all in one touch screen systems for $900 installed.

Which is fine, if all you want is the GPS. I wanted the musicserver in addition to all the other functions built into the stock touch screen system (stereo controls, ac controls, lock/FAST key controls, etc...). So yes, I paid more, but I got more too.

I thought you could get the Nav + audio kit without the Sun & Sound package. So no sunroof and no FAST key. By my estimate that saves you $650 ($3500 for the S&S+ Nav/Tech vs $2850 for the Nav/Audio). When I was looking around here, I thought that was how they were selling them.

Here is how it all breaks down.

In the GTS, the Nav/Music server can come as a factory unit, or as a Port/Dealer installed accessory.

If you want it factory installed, it REQUIRES the Sun+Sound package, and will include the FAST key.

If you get it Port or Dealer installed, it doesn't include the FAST key, or the 650 watt RF sound system.

Basicly (sp), If you want the Nav/Music server, and are really strapped for cash, get a base GTS with Accessory Nav package, but keep in mind that it DOES NOT include the 650 watt audio system.

Here's how the prices break down.

GTS M/T with Accessory Nav $20,330 + dest MSRP
GTS M/T with S+S and Nav/Tech $20,990 + dest MSRP

So it really breaks down to a $660 price difference between the two, and IMO the addittion of a 650 watt system with sub, FAST key, and a moonroof are worth that extra $660 every day of the week.

Oh yeah, I don't doubt that at all. Like I said, what confused me was that for some reason, the Sun and Sound+ Nav/Tech was cheaper(according to the site) than the Nav with audio Kit. I suspected the Nav w/ audio kit was inferior to the SandS/Nav, but couldn't figure out why it was more expensive.

Also, kind of off topic, but is there any way to get leather seats instead of cloth? If so, how much extra? If not, are there any seat covers that are decent looking, comfortable, and reasonably priced?

Yes, there is a way to get leather in the 08 Lancer. Mitsu doesn't offer it from factory, but they gave CST exclusive rights to put leather/suede seats in the car. We have had CST do several of our Outlanders, and their work is flawless. It's much better quality than most factory leathers. The lancer kit runs about $1395, and includes seat heaters, and can come in any color combo you so desire. The headrests usually have LANCER written on them as well.
