Is the progress sway bar a big improvement over the stock one?

Is there a front sway bar? There's two in the pic and you said there's bushings for the front sway bar available, but you said the rear one's the only one available.

Currently only an aftermarket rear sway bar is available. It is made by Progress and RRM sells it. The purpose of this mod is to replace the crappy stock unit (if you have on OZ) or add one that wasn’t there from the factory (ES guys). It’s a good idea to replace the stock perches at the same time as they have a tendency to snap. This mod is a real winner in my book, it is noticeable from the minute you have it installed (at least if you take a corner within that minute). It causes the car to oversteer more into a corner leading to a more neutral feeling since the car naturally understeers from the factory. It does this by basically linking the two sides together and causing them to move up and down together as one unit. There are bushings available for the front sway bar from Deyeme

Yes, the Progress is a MASSIVE improvement. That should be your first modification.

The Lancer does have a stock front bar. There's no aftermarket front bar available, but you really don't need one anyway. The front bar would just create MORE understeer, which FWD cars have enough of already.

Both those questions are explicitly answered in the text you quoted. The only aftermarket sway bar available is for the rear. It is a noticeable improvement over stock and actually helps the car to handle fairly decently. I'd have to disagree with Doug on a front sway bar being meaningless but that's coming from the suby world so I don't know if it applies to lancers.

(I can't believe I'm going to say this) Great write up on the noob stick=(FAQ's) that should smack alot of em when then just buy their lancer. I would say as far as the writeup is concerned it should be non bias but you did state when things were ur personal opinion vs fact so +1 for that. Only thing I saw that was missed was the 4g93 mirage pulley or some called it an underdrive pulley which is smaller in diameter to the stock and lightweight pulley and it underdrives the accessories (Alternator, A/C,etc) so that is can reduce the rotation stress on the engine. Other than that good job.

Well I didn't include that stuff cause that belongs in the mirage-lancer compatibility thread. If I covered all the stuff that can be swapped between the two, the FAQ would be huge. For the most part the FAQ is non-biased and is based on actual data. Obviously things like springs are debatable but I went with the general consensus for that.

Jeez, Nick. You haven't been gone that long!

Yes, the FSB is a good mod on an AWD Subaru. But on a FWD Lancer, it's really not needed. Hell, you'd get closer to neutral handling by unhooking the FSB (theoretically, I've never tried it).

I have never in my life driving a Lancer and said "gee, I wish I could get more understeer dialed in!" Usually I say things more like "this car understeers like a damn pig!"

I was thinking more in terms of helping with body roll and steering response. I've never seen an upgraded FSB on a FWD car before so I don't know how it behaves but on a Subaru it doesn't increase understeer that much but it aids in body roll and steering response.

Yeah, most aftermarket Subaru front bars seemed to avoid the understeer issue (I autocrossed with some folks using truly epic bars).

I'm just going off what's normally expected (kinda like how SRIs usually give lowend power, but my RRM SRI game me topend...). Much like you, I've never even seen an aftermarket FSB for an FWD car.

This is BY FAR the most informational post i've ever read... I appreciate the time and effort put...

As for a suggestion... I know this is a "2002-2006 FAQ" but since most of the things are similar.... perhaps tweak it and add a bit here and there about the 2008 lancer?

Doug is already making a 2008 FAQ. I don't have a lancer anymore so I don't think it'd be right for me to make a FAQ about a car I have no experience with.

We have a 2008 FAQ. It's sticked at the top of the forum... supposedly so they're easy to find.

It's in the FAQ in the turbo section.

For the basic RRM kit (every turbo is different, so 10psi on one is different from 10psi on another), the stock pistons tend to melt at around 9 to 10 PSI. The stock rods will probably go around 14 or 15 PSI (RRM racecar blew theirs after upping the boost from 13 to 15).

Hmmm...I swear it's in there, at least in the revised version. I'll go check.

K I checked and it's in the revised FAQ (the one linked to in my sig). It's in the paragraph under the custom kit header.
