2002-2006 Lancer Super FAQ
Thanks to help from this thread, along with several others, I was able to finish my daily driver NA 02 Lancer OZ build a few months back. Figured the least I could do to show my appreciation is give back to the forum by listing my personal experiences with each modification.
Performace Mods:
-Road Race Motorsports lightweight pulley: This mod was alright, I did notice small amount of better throttle response. For the $170 price tag new from RRM, I probably wouldn't do it again. Take it or leave it, on a NA build, you won't miss much.
-Road Race Motorsports Piggyback ECU: Again this mod was alright, I know it's mostly used for forced induction fuel timing, but RRM claims that it gives more torque, top end power, and mpg for NA setups as well. Although I don't have any hard numbers to prove it, I did feel like the ECU gave slightly better power when on the throttle and slightly better mpg when backed off. Do I think those slight increases are worth its $400 price tag, probably not for a basic NA daily driver setup.
-Injen short ram Intake with a K&N filter: I liked this mod. It was cheap, easy to install, the K&N air filter was easy to clean, and it gave the car a great induction noise. Would recommend.
-DC Sports exhaust: I loved this mod. The exhaust sounded soo great, that I never started the car with the doors closed Ever Again. Gave the car good personality without being too ricey or too loud. Easy to install, direct bolt on. Would highly recommend.
Suspension Mods:
-16" Drag Rims and 205/50R16 Yokohama tires: One of the best handling mods I ever did. The rims where more for aesthetic purposes, but the wide meaty 205 tires really brought the car to life.
-Road Race Motorsports Progress rear sway bar: This was Well worth the $260 i paid for it from RRM. Instantly changed the whole feel of the car and made corners and turns a Blast. Would highly recommend
-Road Race Motorsports KYB shock set: I bought my car with about 93k miles on it and the shocks were well overdue for replacing. I wouldn't know how these compare to new OEM shocks/struts, but I was very happy with the feel of the KYB's. They are a little on the stiffer side--maybe because I had Tien lowering springs on them--but I like to feel the road. Would recommend.
-Tein lowering springs: pretty basic. Lowers the car for dat SiCk sTanCE and probably puts more stress on your shocks/struts as well. Loved the look it gave to the car's ride height. It lowered the front about two inches and and the rear about an inch. Perfect height for a daily driver, rarely scraped at all. Would recommend.
And that about sums it up. Hope this helps other Lancer owners with mods of their own. Feel free to ask any questions.
