Well that's an unfair comparison then. Put springs and better tires/wheels on the G35/350Z and see how well it performs. No matter what you do to a lancer, it will never be a 350Z. You can make it fast as hell, look fantastic and handle like a go kart but it still won't feel the same since it wasn't designed to be any of those things. You can make a 92 civic faster than a ferrari but it's not a ferrari. Buying a performance car is actually a deal compared with the kind of work and sacrifices needed to make a non-performance car in any way similar. Think about, what would you need to do to a lancer to make it faster than a 350Z/STi/Evo, etc. You'd need a turbo kit which means your warranty is shot and you have to worry about reliability. You'd need several bolt-ons like an exhaust which will make the car louder (and in some cases, unbelievably loud). You'll need springs or coilovers which mean blown struts in the future and/or a harsh ride. The cost alone would be 10000$+ if you do it right and you'll have given up a lot to get there. I'm not saying don't mod a lancer, I had fun doing it even if I spent my money poorly, but people need to have realistic goals when they do it. If you go in under this naive idea that you can make the car a sports car, you'll only fail and be horribly disappointed.

 

haha, sorry iv been gone guys, i read all your posts and i was only asking for long run terms would a lancer be worth boosting and comparing it to a 350z but GUESS WHAT!! i traded over the weekend!! YAAAAYYY OMFGGGGG i LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE the 350 holy shnickies, they are soo crazzyyy. i bought an 03 nissan 350z Track with Bose stereo, Nav, 20" aftermarket AXIS deep dish wheels, stillen front bumper, carbon fiber hood, rear spoiler lip, hids, brembos, and the z33 engine, someone said it had the 300hp? someone correct me because some say 287hp or 303hp, but the one i got was silver and omg, its sooo sick, i love everything about it, it only had 25000 miles on it and i got 18k for it (long story but it is hard to sell a track model with winter coming up) but it comes with the stock hood, stock bumper, stock wheels and new winter tires to spicen the deal, i pretty much found out that a dealer up in maine where i live had this car for sale for 3 months with no buyers and where killin to get ride of it, so they signed a consignment deal with a nissan dealer down by me to try and sell it, well the nissan dealer told me a LIE and said the consignment was for 26k and i was like holy shizzz that way over priced, so i worked my business skills magic, did some reseach and found who the wholesaler was and asked him what his price on the Z was and he told me he was selling it for 18k to just get rid of the thing because with winter coming up it was never going to sell. anyways i relayed all my collected info back to the nissan dealer and asked them one more time on the price of the consignment of the car and he said 26k so i counterstruck and said well thats funny because i just talked with your wholesaler and he said he agreed with you to sell it for 18k, then i was like so you were going to sell it and profit 7k and never tell your wholesaler. so i told the wholesaler and he got right up on the phone and *****ed the nissan dealer out that they were going to pocket all that money, i mean i know commision but not 7k's worth... anyways long story short they gave me 15k for my car and 18k for the 350z and because i found out about the wholesaler i saved myself 8 thousand dollars :~)....am i good or what! anyways i get to keep all my aftermarket stuff and sell it, my insurence is the same a month, i still owe 4k on the lancer so i owe about 7k in finance, which is fine by me because u know what, I LOVE MY Z!!! the lancer was great but i just wasnt happy in a sedan because it doesnt feel conferdable to drive as a 350.

i love how in 03 they still had all the digital read outs in the dash and the navigation is sweeeeeeeet, the brembos are crazy good, the power is headthrowing, and the seats are so comfertable, i played around with it all day today and i thought it was soooo cool you could set the cars shift warning light. when i saw this car, i swear i thought it had to of been at least an 05, it was sooo clean, the driver before me too car if it like a baby, this car had only one blemish and that was where he had mudflaps on it and had just rubbed a tiny bit and took them off but other than that, the guy that had it was more **** then me because i have a bunch of scratches on the back of my car from hualing stuff, and about the others who like the g35, i liked it too but i dont ike the 2+2 seating anf it was a little to luxigory and not enough sporty, i liked the gauge setup and i like how the 350z is shorter then a g35 but yea the g35 does have more hp but its nothing for what an exhaust and intake can do... at least i think anyways...
but anyways i had to do it, the deal was right, but now im worried to post pics of it because this isnt a Z forum so i dont want to make anyone mad or nothin... but anyways, this car is more then what i ever imagined it to be, i love it and i am so happy to have it, thank you for all your imput guys, i really appriciate it and it helped a tone because now im happier then ever. but im still glad to say that i have owned a 08 lancer because they are sweet cars and really fun to drive and own and i truely loved that car too but now im moved on to nismo power baby! haha jk thanks eveyone, if you want aftermarket stuff, check out my cardomaine because i get to take everything off including the exhaust work. thanks again

Congrats, sounds like your happy with the purchase. If you want performance do the basic I/H/E and be done with it. BUT, be careful with exhausts on the 350Z. For some odd reason I do not know even with very expensive catbacks the cars tend to sound like buzzing civics. Make sure you do plenty of homework buying an exhaust and hear sound clips of it before you make the purchase.

It also sounds like you got a really good deal on it. Sounds sick, post pics ASAP!

 

yea i know what u mean about the buzzing, iv herd some and i was like EWWWW GROSSS, is sounded badddd. BUT i love the sound of the 350z on tokyo drift so i might be looking for an APS catback 2.5 in exhaust, that system suits the car i think, it really assentuates the unique sound the car has already :~D lol omg i love it but im sad now because i had to drop it off at the dealer a couple minutes ago because i need to get it inspected and they have to order 4 new tires on the 20" wheels it came with, the dealer was being stupid and saything that "dude were losing out on the deal, this and that and that these tires are going to be $1200..." so in the begining we agreed that i was to bring my car back to stock and take the wheels off of it and the canards and spoiler now they want it back because of the stupid holes, I was like damit! why did i have to drill those holes but oh well i get four new lo-pros and the stock wheels with new winter tires so i guess im doing better no matter what because i get to keep my stock lancer wheels and they are worth more then the aftermarket ones i got...

You can't compare these cars. It's like comparing horse poo with gold. Now if you were comparing it with something in it's class, that would make sense. Also, where do you live. If you live anywhere that gets snow, the Z is useless. Do you have a long commute anywhere? You might want something that has a softer ride. Also, look at the price of gas. I hate to say it, but the gas mileage in my Mazdaspeed is killing me, not to mention I have to have super unleaded in that car. I rather have a Lancer for the good gas mileage. However, I love the Z, I would take one in a heartbeat.

im comparing the cars because i already had an 08 lancer and i was feeling stupid that i wanted another car so i wanted to know if anyone that had an 08 lancer would trade for a USED 350z but i did now and im glad because i love it, i do live where it snows and it happend to have snowed today and it drove fine...gas milage is actually better then my 08 lancer because the rpms are really low in 6th gear at 65mph on the highway for my college commute, i wont be commuting to the same college next semester so this car wont be driven on the highway because i live 10min away from a local community college, the one thing i did notice was that the gas tank is bigger so it costs alittle more to fill up but it lasts a long time. and am i supossed to run 91 octane?? because im using 87 octane and it seems to be running fine...

 

Check the owners manual, it'll say what fuel it needs. I would presume you should be running premium considering the car.

 

I was in same predicament when I was first looking to purchase a car. I was torn between getting a 350z and a new car.

Make sure you scour Z forums and read about everything before jumping ships. There were a lot of years where there were major problems .. trannys, etc. My bro's friend has already been through 2 tranny's and an Engine on his. Of course he drive's the hell out of it, but it was still an issue with the car.

Just make sure you know what you are getting into, as always with a used car.

Congrats on the new car! My only drawback would be the rear wheel drive and the common word about 350z's having a terrible time in the snow. With winter coming up you better garage that car or put some very good snow tires on it. I'm in southern wisconsin right now, decent snow, and I would never even think of taking a nice rear-drive car like a z outside with ice and snow

You have to consider that the aftermarket for the Lancer is very limited compaired to other cars (like the Z). If I had the money I would also move out of the lancer for a "sports" car, like a Z or Supra or even an EVO, I like them all. As a family kinda guy (and cash strapped to boot, kids are expensive) I like my Lancer, its gas mileage and handling. It may be an econobox, but it goes down the road and its fun to drive.

As far as a "sports car" defined:

sports car

a small, high-powered automobile with long, low lines, usually seating two persons.

Since the definition is circa 1920, I think it could use an update to include seating for two or four persons.
