The Yellow Paint

Is it just me or is it that the yellow paint on the lancers seem kind of thin because i took a look and i have small chips where a small rocks have hit it and i can see the metal. so i was just wondering if it is a little thinner or weaker then normal cars.

That's probably not the metal but more than likely primer. Although I can't comment about the longevity of the paint.

Don't worry it's not the yellow paint's fault.

It's mitsubishi paint in general.

I often call Mitsu-paint "paper-paint," since it is very thin. My buddy had a red 1992 Eclipse and we got tapped by a white Monte Carlo. The Mitsu paint flaked right off. (of the Eclipse.)

My 2002 Lancer (yellow) has these small chips just like yours. If the color you see is very light gray, almost white, it is the primer, and you're okay. If it is a more aluminum color, take your car in and get it touched up IMMEDIATELY. My buddy had a 2002 Eclipse GT that got a chip down to the metal and it began to rust within a couple weeks.

You might want to ask your dealer for a small tube of touch up paint. It's not perfect (the red dries a VERY different color than the red you'll actually buy with your car) but is helps stop rust. If you recieve some really deep scratches or chips, consider seeing your dealers body shop.

Just remember, when you buy a Mitsu, you buy two crappy things: paint, and transmissions.

I believe the paint is thin for performance reasons, to lighten the car and maximize balance and cornering potential thereby giving the appearance to the stationary bystander the illusion of a yellow streak.
