What to do?

Okay, I noticed when driving around (usually at low speed) I get this weird noise coming from what seems to be the right side of the engine bay, it almost sounds as if something metal is rubbing against something If I take it to Meineke or Midus what will they do for me and will they charge me anything just to find out the problem? My belts are pretty old, I tightened them but I think they still need replaced, but it doesn't feel like that's the problem. Where should I take my car?

So you have to be driving the car to hear the noise? not @ idle? Have someone drive the car in circles in an empty lot and you stand outside and listen closely.

Good luck!

it seemed to have been worse at certain times, slowing down at a red light and standing still it was loudest. i don't hear it @ idle and about turns i'm not sure; i will try to see what it sounds like from the outside.

Could it be the downpipe hitting the crossmember? Have you changed anything recently?

If its loud when stading still its probly not the brakes. But it would'nt hurt to check the pads

Could be something else other than the brakes. My belt made a squeeling noises in the past. They sounded something like piccolo-pete fireworks... but not AS loud. Sometimes it was really loud when it was comming to a complete stop.

It couldn't hurt to get it checked out.

I'm a little lost, you said standing still it is loudest but you don't hear it at idle. Can you clarify that for me?

Does it sound more like metal rubbing against metal (like a brake problem) or metal banging against metal (like a downpipe problem)

As much info as you can give will help us out better.

It kinda sounds like a problem I had with my brakes, except mine was happening when just coasting really slowly through a drivethrough. Like 5 MPH tops I would hear what sounded like light grinding coming from my brakes, the pads weren't coming off of the disk and were dragging.

at idle as in after i start the car to warm it up its quiet, however when i'm slowing down for a turn or red light it makes the noise, sounds like metal rubbing against metal. it wasn't so bad today but still noticeable, i'm gonna let my uncle take a gander at since he's a dealer.

yeah, get it up on a hoist and inspect the brakes/drivetrain. Also check all your fluid while ur at it :P That should give you an indication of where to go.

Okay, so you can exclude the brakes since the sound is there when stopped. Maybe there is a random piece of metal touching at pulley or something and the heat expansion of the metal is the reason it makes the sound after warmed but not when right after starting? I dunno man, kinda hard to tell without more information. I'd definitely say the best bet is to have your uncle take a look. Good luck man.

That set is for one axle. Always do at least a set of brakes, never do one wheel. You should know if its your brakes. Step on them lightly and if you hear grinding, then its your brakes. Also with an 02 i would probably flush my brake fluid.

If you are doing this yourself you should get a manual or a mechanic. you should also be checking for any leaking calipers, peel back the rubber dust shield carefully and inspect for wetness...if its ok then you're good to go. PM me for any tech info.
