Just got an 08 Lancer and i dont know where to start

I just got a lancer but im not so sure about how to start modifying it. i have friends that have hondas and smaller cars and what i always notice is how their exahust is basicly the first thing they switch up.

another thing is that my car is automatic. are there limits on how much i can do with an automatic???

hit me up!!!

I would suggest you start by searching in the applicable section and reading up on what mods people are doing to their cars and what the results are.

I agree with both Amby and IsaRic. Search and see what is affordable, break it in properly and change the oil. I'd also suggest not doing any MAJOR mods (turbos, body kits, etc.) until you have paid a big amount of the car off. Only a suggestion, but it can be worth thousands lol.

Again, break the car in properly and safely, do an oil change early (don't wait until 3k), and THEN worry about modification.

Also, how do you want to modify it? Do you want to make the car better or just do the same ricer mods everyone always does first? And being CVT doesn't mean there's something wrong with your car. Just means you can't do a short shifter or lightweight flywheel.

If you want to make the car better, I'll give you my advice.

1. Tires - nearly every car company slaps cheapo tires on the cars (for obvious reasons). Swapping to high-quality tires will give you the best performance gain AND keep you safe. Always a good idea. This should be your first purchase.

2. Power - that's what most people do first. Huge waste. You can easily spend $1,000 and gain 5 hp. You can grab things like an exhaust and intake, but it's really not worth it. The car will definitely feel faster, but that money would be better spent elsewhere. Making a 17.5 second car into a 17.0 second car isn't exactly "money well spent" if you ask me.

3. Handling - you can get some good "gains" here. But you might not want them. Depends. Personally, I feel like the Lancer handling is a little too "plush" and not sporty enough. If you agree, get springs first (they make the biggest effect). RRM or Works are the big choices (RRM are a little more aggressive on the drop, Works are a little more even). Rear swaybar is the next big modification. Again, RRM or Works are your options (they basically sell the exactly same bar but made different ways, so get whichever). Beyond that, all the strut bars and body bracing do help, but not as much as those two mods.

4. Bling - hey, do what you like.

Any questions? Also, as ambystom01 said, feel free to post up in the forums for each type of modification to get more answers. And read the posts on the site. The 2008s have been out for a year now, there's lots of information here on EvoM already.

Agree on this part, nothing is worse than having to make payments on a car that just sits in your driveway because the motor is blown/body kit is cracked/suspension is messed up/etc.

first i would say put some miles on your car and GET TO KNOW YOUR CAR. That's important because you need to see for yourself what should be improved on your car. Also the modifications currently available are covered in the forum, so spend some time reading the topics and decide what you want to do.

me i did the intake an exhaust..and for right now will just leave it at that..ill focus on the body for right now untill the turbo comes out and has had enough time to fix the kincks and everything..

i would suggest do what you would like..some like to make the car for show..some want performance..i have a performance car that goes faster than the lancer will ever go..so my lancer is basically for looks as of now..i do plan to turbo in the future tho
