But would you be willing to pay 1500 for an exhaust that gains you 5 hp?

No but the gains are not the manufacturer's problem, if they spend just as much time and money making a lancer exhaust as an evo exhaust, they should be able to charge just as much.

Ok what I'm trying to get at is that one may be willing to pay more if one sees a higher gain. Prices on some cars that can make higher hp may have a premium tacked on just because the manufactures know that they'll be willing to pay more...

I think the prices mainly come down to how many companies are making parts... More competition usually leads to lower prices...

its all about supply and demand.. the lancer community is no where as big as the civic crowd..
for example a civic company can make like 100-200 pistons and sell them at a low price because there is such a big demand that the parts will sell..on the other hand a lancer company will make 10-20 and will charge more becauuse they probably wont even sell them all
those

i agree parts for the lancer is pretty average but if you compare it to others cars that have the same comparable performance it is kinda pricey. supply and demand does play a big part though. not every sisters best friend or step dads son inlaw have a lancer. if we did parts would be cheaper like a civic.

I'm looking at $700 for our pistons from RRM and $620 from speed corps. But now that I searched, most other vehicles are in the high $500's for other 4 cyl cars. So it's not a huge difference. Can anyone find our pistons cheaper than $620?

isn't $286 considered hundreds of dollars.... jk

but yea, parts are usually more than i'm willing to spend, but I wouldn't say they're much more than average
