why the lancer????????
I don't know people are still forgetting the 4g94 maybe similar but is still not the 4g63. Just like a Civic theres the Ex and SI which one is the better one? Acura Rsx base model or the Type S? GSR or the Type R? C'mon we are still in the same family. Anyone can buy the evolution, but its hard to afford it.
I can't buy the evolution its too expensive
when being a college student the last thing on my mind are those high payments
My lancer is my first car I got on my 18th birthday it's a good starter car for sure and if I still wish to go get an evo i'll wait a couple years after i graduate so i don't mess it up like how i'm messin up my lancer right now
I think the lancer is for me because i'm still young and reckless with my driving. I guess when i get older and i try to go for an evo i'll have a more conservative driving habit and treat it the way it should be treated compared to my lancer (I get disappointed when i see cars like evos and sti's being manhandled and abused by novice drivers
). I wanna start with my training wheels before i take them off.
For me when the big evo guys look down upon the lancer owners i just think of them as big brothers bullying on us. Nothing insulting, more like teasing. Me being the youngest sibling i'm used to it and I'm used to getting the beginner stuff before advancing and upgrading to newer and better things. Evo's aren't practical for me at the moment but i do see it in the far distant future. WIth that being said every lancer owner has their own reasons why they chose the lancer over the evolution. It doesn't really matter why we chose the one over the other its the fact that it provides us transportation from point A to point B

I can buy one and afford. I just don't want it.
I think I may be in the minority here, but I won't buy an EVO, maybe a few years ago, I almost bought one. Like I told someone else, if I'm buying another car it will be a classic car with a ground up restoration/modernization.
Right now, I'm spending my money turning my POS lancer into a FWD beast daily driver/track car.

lol well its both ways, its either you want one or don't. Or simply just can't afford it with your budget. I mean i wouldn't struggle if at all to have one. My audi 1.8t is probably more high maintenance than a Evo would be. I like getting good things but for a real good deal. If the lancer evo ever came around me with an offer i couldn't refuse thats when i'll get a evo. I just hate having a car note!
Not sure how you equate "bad ankles" with cruise control. I dont have cruise control and my ankles are fine.
These threads pop up now and again, usually from Lancer owners. It's good to see an Evo owner who is interested in why we do what we do. I think the answer is different for everyone.
Personally I got the Lancer when I started college as a commuter car. I could have got the Evo but would have had to pay out the eyes for insurance and the MPG wasn't nearly as good. While I respect the evo and their community I don't see myself in one. I've grown a lot and have change my car sensabilities over the years.
I still love my car and it has done good by me. It has a few dings and scratches but has never let me down. I don't think that I will ever get rid of this car because someday it will be my beater. We've been through so much these past five years it and have seen many mods. I truely identify with my car more than just a mode of transport. I'm happy to see it in the morning and happy when it takes me home at night. And isn't that what it is all about?

cost of living has it's influences as well.
If I were living in Florida with my current income, I'd be driving an Evo X. However, I live in the Los Angeles area, and the cost of living here is stupid, couple that with insurance rates higher here than the rest of the US and the bills add up quickly.
However, I like my '08 Lancer GTS. I have and will continue to mod it. Mind you, I won't go nuts with my mods. I'll stick with mods that will allow me to pass California smog tests easily and those body mods I find appealing.
I mod things. It's my hobby. I've never owned a car or truck that I didn't mod. So, even if I had a Honda Fit, Honda Element, Scion xB, or 1965 Lotus Elan I would still mod it...

ok lets see, I had a busted 93 Escort and it picked a good day to work so I traded it in for an 02 OZ and called it a day cuz they gave me $500 trade in for the escort. The only other choice for me that day was a civic and well to be honest I just didn't like civics that much back then, not to mention all the other cars that I did like were only available in red, black, or green. SO I picked the lightning yellow oz. I always loved EVOs, but really loved the VII and in NC, there was no way I was gonna make enough to trade in my 02 when the EVOs came out anyway. A few years later I finally decided that my car just looked too plain. I'm not trying to be and EVO, but I now have the look that I wanted in a car. I don't really care about speed or any of that unless I win the lottery and can start over. The only thing that gets on my nerves is when people who don't know any better try to race me and all that. I'm still loving my car at the gas pump when I see people pull beside me and rev! lol. The only other thing is EVO owners who think they are better than everyone else just because they have an EVO. I mean heck its not about trying to be something else, its about expressing yourself and being different. Btw, anyone rememeber hearing or seeing the prelude with the EVO VII taillights? Oh and don't even get me started on how many people used to ask me if I was trying to make my car look like an IS300, lmao.
Because most people can't handle a car like the EVO for track/autoX. Why get a car that is fast when you can't even use it properly? I'm not ashamed to admit i'd be totally over my head in an evo for the autoX I do with my Lancer, you gotta start somewhere.
to some people performance isnt eveything. theres a guy in my town with an 03 04 ish lancer..not sure what year..but he has redone the entire body..not entire but the front rear bumpers..trunk everything..it looks almost idential to an evo IX. he has a intercooler mounted but no turbo. says he dosent race he just loves the look of an evo and he goes to meets and rides around with evo members and they dont know the difference either he has basic bolt ons and exhaust for performance but other than that nothing major. its just down to what some people like..
i read alot of these responses an there all pretty true, like alot of them are financial reasons, **** im a 18 yr old i got my 08 lancer a month after i turned 18. i pay for everything an anything that car needs, an since i jsut got a full time job i now have cash to spednd on mods. sure i did the evo x front body look but its just i love the evo's any year love em all. but im not tryin to set out to be a evo. **** id love all that power under my hood but sure as hell wouldnt like to pay for it haha. its like asking why a civic, why a mazda3, really why any car? people take pride in what they ride an wanna make it look good, except people who use peice of crap cars like "oh crap your door just fell off an you have no rear bumper" then i would have to make a counter arguement.
I own a 06 EVO IX, and an 06 Lancer ES. I bought the EVO in Febuary of 2006 with 3 miles on it. It now has just over 4,700 miles. I bought the Lancer ES in mid April 2006... with 25 miles, it now has 43,000+ miles on it. I know the power and handling of the EVO... but what I've noticed, the ES is the best handling car besides the EVO I've owned and drove. But on top of all that....
The EVO runs 13s 1/4 mile stock.
The ES runs 15s 1/4 mile mildly modified.
Road course is a different story.
