Exclamation 08 Lancer Damaged Headlight Housing (Sidemarker cover)

Hey guys so whats happened here is that I was replacing my right-side sidemarker light with a new LED. Have done this several times before and something like this has never happened, but in this case while installation, the little plastic piece that encloses the sidemarker bulb popped off the slot and fell forward into the housing. Any suggestions on how to get it back in? Or will I need to buy a whole new housing?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys.

You can open the entire housing to get the plastic piece out. But to do this you have to warm up the headlight in an oven because you need to soften the glue that attaches the front (transparent) part to the rest of the headlight.

^^ Yea thats prob the only option. Or you could buy a new one and sell this one on ebay. I'm sure someone would be willing to pay at least 100 for it

I would take it back to the Mitsubishi dealer and tell them it broke. That should be something that you can get covered under warranty. You don't need to tell them you were changing your bulbs or anything. A car this new shouldn't break that easily

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll try taking it back and playing dumb to see how they react. I already put my OEM sidemarkers back in, so hopefully I can pull it off.

lol thats sad... lol what you should do is see if you can get them to bump down the price of a replacement. They arent going to replace anything under warranty lol. If that was the case everyone who had the chipping paint problem would be getting a free paint job lol.

What you could do is cover it up. make some kinda custom Eye lid or something

Either way I am 99.9 % sure your on your own. Time to crack it open and do some fixing

Of course they will replace it under warranty. They can't prove you tampered with it. Could have just been a fracture in the glass from the manufacturer. They will replace it for free if you just play dumb. With my old cavalier I removed the headlight assembly to do some mods and broke the mounting tabs. I just put it back like before and played dumb saying my headlight was bouncing and they replaced it for free same day.

Yeah its tough to say. I wont be disappointed or surprised if they ask me to pay for the replacement. I do know the service manager at a dealership here so I might be able to get the part for less...But i'll definitely go in and try the play-dumb tactic and see what their reaction is.

a crack in the interior glass would be considered a manufacturer defect.

ask yourself, if you ran a dealership, would you let a guy that drove off the lot with a perfectly normal headlight, return and say, ummm manufacturer defect? I am sure you will assume that someone tampered with it. A new headlight assembly is 500 dollars+ for one? are you gonna pick up that tab? Cause I know for a fact that if they tried to write that off to Mitsubishi head office as a official waranty bill, they are gonna get a call back lol

Alternatively, I suggest you get that sucker in the oven and pull it a part and fix it up. I shouldnt take a whole new replacement, so long as its not broken, its not that big of a deal

Dude, mitsu is not going to argue about a headlight assembly being replaced. I definitely would not go the oven route unless the dealer absolutely refuses to replace it. I honestly thing all you have to do is take it in and be like something on the inside of my headlight broke. They probably wont even say anything else to you. They will just swap it out. Unless your car is covered in other mods, they should have no reason to believe you did something to break it. Just act normal and I'm sure they will replace it under warranty. If you are a very ethical person then pay for the new one. All you were doing is a bulb replacement, if it broke that easy then it probably would have broke on its own sometime down the road. Just take it in and get it replaced for free.
