Exhaust problem

i have a vrs catback exhaust. 2.25 piping with magnaflow muffler. i when i first got it installed before i had test pipe and headers i had a nice deep sound, not ricey. but now since i installed the test pipe and headers it starts making a whinning or buzzing sound after 3,000rpm. i have kamikaze headers with their 2.5 downpipe. i think maybe i need to upgrade to 2.5 piping. maybe the gases aren't exiting fast enough since i freed up alot of air. any comments or suggestions would be helpfull. thanks.

I did, but I didn't have a header or downpipe to match at the time. No loss in power with 2.5" cat-back.

It's just a side effect of having a free flowing exhaust. They make funny sounds. Add a bottleneck and the sounds get a little different.

I wonder if you have loose bolts and are loosing backpressure due to gasses exising out at a gasket ... I'd check all points from header to end of exhaust and make sure all flanges are bolted tighly with gaskets ..

all the bolts are tight and everything is sealed. some guy told me since i added the headers and downpipe and test pipe that now i have a lot more volume of exiting gases and i need to get atleast 2.5piping. he said the gases are just trying to exit quickly thats why it makes that weird buzzing or weezzing sound after 3,000rpm.

I've seen a couple people on the forums with the same problem. They resolved the issue by taking the Test Pipe off. It sounds better they say, but then you have to debate whether to loose some power or not. Why don't you try taking off the Test Pipe just for kicks and putting the cat back on. See if that's the issue. If not, there's something else wrong. Or you can get a different high flow cat maybe.

the cat will cause more backpressure, which if you arent turbo, might help you feel a little more low end torque and might get rid of the whining, like hobie said.. add a bottleneck and it changes in sound
