AC ON=Gutless....?

I bought my car in October and have only ever used the heat until now. I noticed the other day driving in the city that while the AC was on my car was lacking in power.....I'm talkin a huge loss! As if it wasn't gutless enough in 1st, now I gotta hammer on it just to keep cool!? WTF? Anybody else experience this problem?

I'm not surprised. Even in the RA, when I really wanna throw the car around some empty roads, I have to turn the AC off. I feel like I lose 25% of my hp (its probably not that much) with the AC on and the car feels really unresponsive.

you guys arent the only ones , Ive heard this complaint a million times from customers and other techs, it has to do with the ecu settings for the a/c on function , same deal almost as when you turn the steering wheel and the idle kicks up to compensate..

Hey turbo02, you said 'other techs'? I take it you're a mechanic? I heard the 09's have a de-tuned ECU (Probably discussed in other threads too) wut the hell's the deal with that!? I just assumed that had something to do with the power loss with the A/C.

Never heard of detuned Ecu's in the 09's affecting that portion of the computer/idle circuit ...Maybe another mitsu emission blunder like the overly rich tune in the x's, all we use the ecu for is flash updates and diagnostics I know the flashes when they come out are different but that could mean anything being a different year..

......I would say take it into your local dealer and get them to check it so its put on record just in case something comes up...

Guys, All cars have a diversion of power when the A/C is on. there is no way around it. Don't use the A/C if you need power. turn it off.

But until Mitsubishi or other manufacturers design a passive A/C system then your stuck.

Yeah.. I feel it on passing, like going from 60-80. Accelerating's not a problem cause it seems like it disconnects the compressor at high rpm's.
