1st Car Advice

Hello Everyone ,

I just began working , and i start college in the spring, so its time for me to buy a car ,Instead of driving around my moms 97 honda civic to work ,I'm currently deciding to get a lancer 2002-2005 Oz rally or ES. Which one should i go with ?

Also i would want to put a body kit on it, to try to make it look like a stock Evo , If that's even possible. Oh yeah and is Manual transmission hard to learn ? could i learn how to drive manual in like 3 days ? or should i just stay with automatic?

Anyways i dont know much about cars .

Thanks.

well everyone will say evo....but just for a daily driver and your not racing it the 02'-04' ls and oz are the same. motor interior exterior etc...the es is the base model thats the same just no rear sway bar no abs. its really what you can afford. manual trannys are fun but if you never drove one then i wouldnt try to learn in 3 days, if you burn that clutch up thats a job and a half, and they suck in traffic.

Replacing a clutch is between 600-800 dollars if you burn one out...so hopefully you have someone who's a very good teacher.

As for the body kit...really reset your self here...that poser status will get you no where. You might as well look into the 04-06 Lancer Ralliart...much faster vehicle and comes with the factory aero kit. There's a pretty good group of guys on the forum that can help you out (including myself).

my advice?

skip the lancer, keep the honda until you graduate and then buy a real evo or what ever is popular at that time.

you will need the extra money for beer & women.

Manual isn't too hard to learn. No worries. Three days should be plenty.

In my opinion, get the OZ. If you don't care about the slightly better suspension, do it because the interior is much nicer than the ES. That's what you're going to be looking at and touching every single day.

I personally hate the "my OZ looks like an Evo now!" bodykits, but if that's your style, have fun with it.

It's possible, but you will probably spend as much on the parts as you will the car itself (assuming you get a good deal on the car).

Also, unless you have the skills or are willing to pay someone to do the job right, its going to end up pretty ugly. I'm gonna guess that you don't want to drive a car that is three different colors because you cannot afford to paint it.

And yes, you can learn to drive a manual in an afternoon.

You should pick up on driving a manual pretty fast so if which ever you decide on is a manual don't let that steer you away. It seems harder then it really is. Just stay out of congested areas and steep hills until you have the full hang of it.

If you really wanted to choose I would go for the OZ, not much of a difference but you get a little bit of a sportier look. You can learn to drive manual in 3 days but you would still kinda suck at it lol

I got an auto though since this was my first and only car since 2004 but it's still running with 140k on it

what's wrong with a 97 civic

buy a cheap car you can pay cash for until you can get something you REALLY want like maybe a real evo?

Take our advice. If you can get by with your mom's car. Stick to that until you have education and a career. Your mind will always change, Technology always changes. By the time you've gotten up there, there's no doubt what car you want to buy. Money is tight everywhere right now. An old evo is steep learning curve if you have to juggle between books, jobs and problem with a car.
