Everyone has their own tastes and you seem to love the V8 displacement type. I also notice that you drive both your 10 second SS and a 98 Dodge. I can guess that the SS is not your everyday driver. I'm sure it registered and insured, but I enjoy driving my 12 second car every single day through rush hour traffic in 110 degree heat.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that my car is an everyday driver. In fact, I've had it for exactly 4 years now and I have racked up 93,000 miles on it. Everything is functional down to the subwoofers in the back to the AC and power steering. If I had another car, I could easily build it to "weekend brawler" status and run in the 10s also. It's been done by so many other DSM owners. But I choose to stay in FULL street form and even pass smog legally.

As I said in my first post, I could care less who builds the car. If it has power, I love it. I just dislike it when others claim that the imports are somewhat inferior in status. The I4 could easily take you on, if it was in the same class as your SS. I'm sure you would not want to be stuck in stop in go traffic with your SS in the middle of Las Vegas in the summer.

don't have big V8s here so we just have to settle with running with 6s.

Jeff, I wasn't saying I HAD a 10 second car. Only that for the same money as one would spend on a hot I4, the same could be spent on a V8 and get lots more HP. I love all kinds of cars(except Hondas/Acuras). Like you said if it's fast I like it.
But the old saying of "there's no replacement for displacement" is always going to ring true. It's a matter of physics. Even import tuners know that.
My chevelle runs mid 12s and could be daily driven if I could afford the gas. I also have AC and subwoofers and although Stockton doesn't get as hot as Vegas. I did take it out last week in 100+ weather and she ran beutifully as always.

My intention was not to talk down on imports. Hell I own one. Just that in the dollars per horsepower category (which is what the majority of us tuners look at), there is no replacement for displacement.

We all love to make more power, but I think the 4G63 motor has the largest horsepower to $ ratio than any other engine. Just think about how easy it is to extract power out these DETUNED engines. Invest in a boost gauge, simple air filter and a manual boost controller for less than $200. Guess what? You have at least 50 more horsepower than you had before, depending on what you raised the boost to.

$4 per horsepower
It's too easy when the factory presents you with a car able to handle more than 400HP.

well i love both imports and domestic but to me, it all comes down to both handling & power.
