2012 Lancer ES road noise

Hi, I'm a first time poster, so please bear with me if I get it wrong.
I have a 2012 Lancer ES (17000km) with a lot of road noise from the front end. There is a "gritty" feeling through the steering wheel like the brakes are down to "metal-to metal" under soft braking.
I hoped it would be better after 15000km service...
2 dealers say Lancers are noisy. One rotated the tyres ($44) with perhaps 10% improvement. They said the only way to compare was to drive a similar Lancer over the same roads...
Question: Is your Lancer ES noisy and "gritty" ?
Thanks, Garry.

Hi Garry... I have had 4 Lancers so far ( '03 Ralliart, '06 ES and an '09 SE) and my current '13 10th Anniversary (Canada only Model)

These cars are a bit prone to noises but not overly so. I did have some brake noise on my 09 SE when I first got it and the dealer replaced the pads and rotors on the front and all was well. I would say that "gritty" is not good feeling. You should take it to the dealer and let a tech drive it with you in the passenger side and let him feel and hear the noise. There should not be this type of problem on a car with such low mileage. Best of Luck

Your post can describe anything that would vary from (but not limited to)

-Tire noise
-Tires out of balance
-Quality of brake rotors
-Material /quality of brake pads
- braking style

Since you mentioned rotating the tires made a questionable 10% improvement, I would assume you have two different sets of tires on your car?

Otherwise sounds like youre nit-picking and your lancer has nothing wrong with it at all LOL

Thanks Berford,
I have taken it to 2 different dealers (one for the 15k service) and have been with the tech once. He said this amount of noise was not unusual, but it would be good to compare similar ES to be able to compare. Isn't that his job??

I have noticed for example, that a "Cherry" brand car is quieter than mine!!

I think I will go down to the service centre and find another Lancer owner and take him for a drive in mine

Hi allevolution,
As my Lancer is less than 1 year old, it has all the same tyres.
I have driven a "Cherry" brand car (China)? and it is quieter than my Lancer !
Wish me luck, because it sounds like the dealer is fobbing me off.

Garry

Nope.
For the street:

Michelin tires give the beast traction, ride quality, least road noise, and longest lasting. Seen a set on an suv last up until 100,000 miles!
