babyboba29....blown engine. NEED HELP!!

today ended up a very sad day for me. i was cruising in montclair off the 10 east fwy when i made a U turn and "BOOM!!!" ...

i made the U turn in neutral and finished it by putting into second and reclutching it. the RPM was around 2000 when a loud pop and a "spraying" sound came from the engine bay. the car instantly stalled and white smoke was coming out from the hood and out from the back, i pulled over to find out that oil, coolant, water...was coming out faster than you can pour it out of bucket. later, i was walking the trail of oil only to find a piston connecting rod on the floor....then chunks of piston....then chunks of engine block...23 peices all together. basically, some stuff was shot out of my engine..there is a gapping hole in the lower block. anyhow, i brought it to a shop and now i have to buy a new engine. this is how they quoted me:

800 for a 2002 mitubishi lancer 2.0 engine with 25K miles on it
about 700 for labor..
so $1500 all together....is that a good price or can i find something cheaper elsewhere??

please post your thoughts...but keep the simpathetic comments down..i know its sad but i need info more than compassion..thanks

Whoa... wtf? how did ur engine blow like that? Im just curious. You didnt over-rev it and as far as I know you dont have NOS. Could it have something to do with when you hydrolocked your engine earlier last month?

Maybe that's a sign you should get a MIVEC engine from a Ralliart

you canadians are so inconsiderate. oh wait a minute...

that's like asking a guy where his next girlfriend is at his wife's funeral. let the guy mourn first.

anyway, $1500 doesn't sound unreasonable for extensive engine work. what was the mileage on your current engine? more or less than the 25,000?

who'd you get to fix that hydrolock, and is there anyway of checking if they did something wrong to your car which caused the new problem?

1500 for an engine with 25K on it and to put it in.. awesome deal!! very good deal, but im curious as to why it blew. it sounds like whoever worked on your car last used the same connecting rod and you probably should got new ones.. that is if the rods were removed in the first place... or they didnt torqe them right.

sounds like a good deal to me.
after civic hydro locked, and did pretty much the same thing (2holes the size of golf *****) rods cracked and blah blah
cost me 1600 to put in a 96 honda ex motor in with 30k miles.

oh man..the meet is the last thing on my mind..i gotta pull $1500 out of my already dented *** from paying for the hydrolock. the dealer in santa monica said my engine was fine and they won't assume any responsibilities for it. i think it was a bent rod from the hydrolock and over time it just crapped out. i wasn't racing or over revving or drifting...i was f*cking making a 5 mph. U-turn!!!.

so $1500 isn't bad huh...my engine had 41K on it. this one they are offering is 25K. can anyone get me a MIVEC engine?? will it even fit onto out lancers??

A gen 2 MIVEC is expensive and uncommon.

it will cost you more than you probably have, i was attempting to make light of your situation.

I would say 1500 is a good deal on the engine plus install. Hope to see you around soon though!!!!

Try to get a couple of friends together that know a little and change the motor yourself. It's only turning ratchets. I do recommend changing your clutch while its apart.
