Evoscan with regular Lancer?

Evoscan with regular Lancer?
Dear all,
I've had the Evoscan software for quite a while, but just no cable.
Now I've recently made the (possibly rather unfortunate) decision to buy a generic Openport 2.0 cable from AliExpress.
The Evoscan software doesn't get data from the cable, but the plug itself does seem to be responding (lights blinking).
I watched a video online and someone mentioned needing another adapter for datalogging/flashing. That was on a 3000gt, but I have a 1,3 Lancer (same era though it seems).
Anyone have any clues on what I can try?
