Waterlogged

So I'm an idiot. It's been predicted for rain here for like a week straight now with sunny days all the time. Last night, it was obvious it was finally going to rain and I left my damned sunroof open all night long.

I got really lucky. The slight angle my car is parked at, only because I parked in backwards to my spot rather than forward, placed the puddles that formed on the floor of my car away from the amp mounted under the driver's seat. My rear floormats are soaked, but I simply tossed them in the dryer along with some towels I used to sop up the bulk of the moisture in there. And the remote for my stereo may never work again as it was in the cupholder with about a quarter inch of water.

Tomorrow, I was going to wash my car, very thoroughly. It's supposed to be sunny. I'll let it air out a lot then. Does anyone else have any suggestions to making things dry up in there once the rain stops, so I don't get a musty smell in there or anything?

Thanks in advance,
-N

When you drive put on the air conditioner, the condenser will actually pull water out of the car, atleast the water vapor. As you pull the water vapor out though and the water in the carpet evaporates it will help so I would drive with the a/c on for a few days. And then of course when it is nice out let the windows down. If you don't get all the water out it will one smell like ***, and two loosen the adhesive on the fabric on the ceiling causing it to hang down.

Well, I've had towels in there at the damp spots all day, though the bulk of the moisture they can pick up without being rubbed into the carpet is gone.

I left the car running in my parking spot with the AC on full with full heat aimed at the footwells to get as much of the evaporation happening in the air and condensing as possible, then took a drive with the windows open. With towels underneath me while driving, I stayed pretty dry and my seat is also mostly dry. Passenger side is still moist as well as some of the carpetting. And the stereo remote is back to working.

So far, so good. I still haven't put the fuse back in my amp though. I know it still works, but don't want to leave it on again until I'm sure all the moisture is out of the carpet around it.

Thanks for the tips guys...

Use bissle (atleast i think its bissle) to clean the carpets. (basicly shampoo) and you should not have a problem. In my last car the roof would leak all over the place. And i threw some bissle on it and its all good now. (atleast it was untill i sold it)

Is that any different from a wet/dry vac? I don't have a wet/dry vac regardless, but what more would Bissell do?

It seems all good now guys - thanks for the tips. Ultimately, I just left towels in all the time, kept sopping up whatever I could and swapping towels from the dryer to the car all yesterday. Today, I vaccuumed and cleaned and all and it seems just fine.
