depends how much of your car is covered. if your car is covered for however much u bought the car, then mods won't be covered. but if u included mods, then insurance should cover it. i believe that's how car insurance works..

i think it only covers stock parts, so i guess that doesnt include body-kits and stuff. What i think that really sucks is if you have an intercooler and someone hits your front and really gets messed up, there goes your intercooler. Anyways you could always work it out with that person that hits you, like when they give you the money to pay for the damages, just ask for the check instead of them taking your car to the shop to get it fixed

umm, insure your car in its modified state. the insurance company can turn around and avoid your claim completely if your vehicle is modded and they dont know. things to look out for - any engine modifications, suspension/braking mods, anything that can affect the vehicles behavior on the road basically. I've had friends who have had their claim denied due to the tint being illegal - insurance company decided the darker tint meant the driver couldnt see out of the rear window well enough and that caused the accident. bottom line -= let your insurance company know -everything- you do to your car even basic stuff like wheels/tyres.

if you let the insurance company know that your car is modified and get you aftermarkets insured for like an extra 20 dollars a month then you'll be covered...but if the insurance company doesnt know about it then they will only cover stock parts

Wait, it seemed to me that you're making this question in the event that the other guy is at fault. If his insurance company is paying for it, your mods are covered if you can show that they were on your car (receipts are good, pics of it on the car before or after the accident, etc.). Now if your own insurance covers the accident, that depends.

Yeah, if someone hits you and it's his fault, he needs to somehow pay for ALL the damages he did to your property. You might have to argue with his insurance company a little, but they have to reimburse you for all damages, whether you insured the mods or not doesn't matter because you're not at fault and your insurance isn't covering the accident.

Well many times OEM equipment costs more to repair/replace than aftermarket stuff. (as always there are exceptions) At any rate, check your policy, many times reading will answer many of your questions. I know my policy covers up $1000 in of non-vehicle theft (cds, aftermarket stereo) and I also believe that covers aftermarket equipment. I know that if you have many things done to your car, it is best to have your insurance provider come out and appraise the car. Your payments might go up, but you will be sure to get the money you deserve in the event of an accident.

That's true. My brother was in an accident and is thinking about getting a Kaminari bumper on his Civic because it costs the same as an OEM bumper. But if you want to cover all your mods at sale cost, you'll have to add them to your policy. It shouldn't cost much more, and is highly recommended if you have a kickin' stereo (high theft risk)
