didn't like cai? what's not to like? i had a sri before my aem cai, and i'd never go back. granted, the sri was a lot more aggressive sounding, but still.
still, either way, we are talking like 2 maybe 3 hp differences. and our cars are STILL slow.

haha, mike! YOU being a conflict mediator?!
not long ago i'd say you needed your own personal conflict mediator on evom (before you added your signature disclaimer)

i have no beef with anybody. i just shudder at the thought of cheap dryer hosing in my car.

it might not be visible... but I'D know its there!
and yeah, everyone these days is too damn sensitive. its funny how everyone is supposedly so "tolerant" in this day and age, and yet frivilous personal lawsuits are freaking out of control! you look at someone wrong and they an sue you now!

Coda - thanks for the tutorial on the shift knob gap. Used it last weekend.
Basically, my beef with CAI was the jump. From 0 - 3500 rpm, you get nothing. Suddenly, you get a 10hp, 13tq jump. It's like VTEC (waiting, waiting, waiting, VROOM). With the SRI, things just feel more consistent. There's still a jump around 4k, but it's not as drastic because I've had extra HP throughout the powerband.
And yes, I'll know it's there, but it doesn't bother me. It meets my needs for $50 less than Weapon R does, and if I have extra money, I can buy a part.
Mikey -
Personally, I think the CAI was just as loud as the SRI is. But I could be wrong.
I'll probably go with the hose. Rather than buy a duct and pay for install (or chance it myself), I'll do this cheap. My money is needed for things like RRMs TB or coilovers before I worry about a hood duct. Plus, I don't know what I think about a duct. I'm not sure I like the looks of a hole in the Lancer hood.

Food for thought:
- With my ducting setup feeding from under the car, the filter gets very VERY dirty very VERY quickly. I have to clean my filter about once every 5,000 miles.
- Both the ducting and the scoop provide a larger source of fresh air for the intake to draw from. Still not true ram air, but it will breathe much better.
- Dryer ducting is found on professional race cars all over. Walmart seat covers, however, are not
- The only reason I don't have a hood scoop or have the ducting coming from behind the side grill is because those ways are not allowed in my class for SCCA autocross racing. However, I am seriously considering removing the left headlight for more airflow on open track events.
- You could always find a hood at a junk yard if you ever wanted to go back to stock after putting holes in your hood.
- 3" ducting fits around the engine bay very nicely. After I relocated the battery, 4" ducting fits with a very direct path from under the car.

More food for thought: SRI has faster throttle response and better low end (torque), CAI is a littly sluggish but has more top end power. I'll take the low end for racing, thank you.
