Thumbs down Warranty Issue!!

I went back to dealership (Don Davis Mitz) this morning for checking the rear shock (leaking for both side), couple minutes later, they told me that my car's warranty was expired!!! WTF, it's 2002 Lancer with 34xxx miles on it. The dealership check with Mitz's warranty department, and the record shows my car had been modified. They took off my warranty because of the modification. Mitz said that I changed rims, intake, and exhaust which is void the warranty. Is that true? I don't think so! Mitz said that they are not gonna pay for this. Dang! I didn't change any parts about the suspension and engine (if intake didn't count in), they shouldn't take off my warranty. It's not right!!! I called the customer service of warranty dept. myself, and they said there is nothing they can do, they got the information from dealership. Well, I know who reported this to Mitz now. I got some warranty issue with another dealership (Hiley Mitz) in Arlington (TX), I asked them to check some wired noise fome the front end and they ask me to change all the stock parts back or they won't check it. Also, they told me that I void the warranty because of these aftermarket parts, and they reported my modification to Mitz, cause they are the only place that taking the inspection.

I won't buy any Mitz car in the rest of my life!!
Poor quality (tranny, paint, suspension), customer service, high depreciation, and wired warranty!!!!!!!! They suck!!!!!!!!

Also, I'm looking for new or used rear strut for my Lancer LS, I think it's the same with OZ one. I'm not gonna pay $500 from dealership!!!!!!

They can't just void your entire warranty...
they have to prove that whatever modifications you did to your car caused the problem... They can take note of modifications and void anything that would be caused by your mods...
do a search there is a ton of info on this already that will let you know who to contact to get this resolved quickly..

here is a good link

Thanks!! Mod1Fy!! Very useful information!!
I called Mitz directly and they will ask the car dealership review my case again, and checking if my aftermarket parts will void the warranty or not.

Well....the service mamager from Mitz Corp. told me that different rims might damage your suspension since the angle was changed!!....what angle!!??.....
Anyway, waiting for the phone call from local dealership, but I didn't look forward to it for solving this problem!
The qualiyt of the suspension just #^$@#^@^. I changed the front suspension couple month ago, and now the rear suspension is dead, too! But I got a used car tho., and I should check this piece of junk before I buy it. Now I also got some noise from front end when you are making right or left turn, sounds like you are bending some kind of metal when you are making a turn. Some little kicking noise(after the car was warmed up) from the engine bay. Dang!! lots of noise from this car. My old Ford Tarus even quieter than this one.

The dealership is trying to dick you over. Unless you seriously changed your wheel's outside diameter you didn't change the suspension geometry and it's highly unlikely that your modifications caused the failure. They are obligated to repair your car under warranty unless they can prove that your aftermarket parts caused the failure, so if I were you I'd apply some pressure.

Use your imagination. Bring them a copy of your rights. Threaten to get a lawyer. Ask them how they know what caused the failure. That's your battle, pal. Do something novel with it. My car hasn't seen a dealership since its first oil change over 2 years ago.

Also which intake do you have... is it one that is CARB legal... even if your not a SMOG state the CARB sticker/# makes the part safe and legal thus they cannot void the warranty without proving it caused an issue... to do that they will have to fight you and the company you baught the intake from since you'll sue them for false claims.

Also like Hobie said... if you didn't change rim diameter they really can't attack you on that issue. Tires are sold with the same government rating and inspections to ensure your safe and sound while driving. If you changed Rims though they could push that unless they are the same offset and diameter!

Personally the fact that they voided your whole warranty is unlawful so you have an ace with that. I'd use that to push them into correcting everything or sue them. Remember don't sue Mitsubishi rather sue the dealership(they are all privately owned) which is refusing to warranty the car under wrongful terms.
