Question mufflerless exhaust

I don't know if anyone has seen the August Sport Compact Car yet(project srt-4), but how would a turbo lancer respond and sound to only a 2.5" magnaflow resonator(actually a 4" universal exhaust) w/piping, after the cat on back?
or do most people have a resonator and muffler to their after cat exhaust?
what info can you share?

I don't see the point in uncapping a Lancer exhaust. I run 2.25" piping because I don't want to lose torque. Some people who ran straight through complained about a lot of lag in the car's acceleration. Not sure how it would react with the resonator and cat though. I wouldn't suggest that unless you were running a turbo.

Yes sir, it's a turbo lancer.....i think i an going to play around with a couple ideas i have for an exhaust from the downpipe back...as far as sound and performance goes, not really looking for a bling look for it, just what gets the job done.

But in a turbocharged setup the turbine wheel is what creates "resistance" in the exhaust flow (assuming the exhaust is not straw-sized). If your piping is narrow it will spin less freely, and if your piping is open it should spin more freely. The effect should not be the same as it would be on a naturally aspirated car. If anything you should have moretorque available in the low RPMS in addition to more top end. I'm guessing you're giving butt dyno results, not hard numbers.

thanks for your input guys...maybe some of you know and maybe roadrace/boe can answer this.....when would we have to up the piping in a turbo setup....i know everybody says 2 1/4 but, I think it's just because they heard it from another....when would we go say 2 1/2" or even 3" if we would ever go that wide? at a certain psi? or?

Correct me if I'm wrong, Boe, but you would want 2.5" if you were above 10 psi in boost. It seems that you want 2.5" if you're pushing over 200 hp and don't bother getting 3" unless you can get your car above 300 hp.
