Question ? about painting calipers

when painting calipers do you have to remove them, or can you just paint them while they are on?

i painted mine while they were on, but i had to put a lot of newspaper all around so no paint would get anywhere else, I'd say just take them off and paint them. Make sure to sand them first to get all the rust off and wash them good and wait til they're dry to paint. Primer, Primer, Paint, Paint, Paint, Paint, Clear Coat, Clear Coat, Clear Coat. Then wait 3 days or so for the paint to cure before installing them and using them again. That's my suggestion, but I'm not an expert.

You don't need to do a ton of coats and clearcoat and all that crap. Just buy some brake caliper spray paint from autozone or a speed shop. I painted mine with the calipers off but only because I did it at the same time I installed my new pads. But when I put the calipers back on I noticed some spots that weren't done right so I masked off everything and sprayed them again while they were on and that worked fine. So technically, you could do it with the calipers on, just have to do a good masking job with newspaper. If you already have the calipers off, then spray them off, it's easier to get around to the harder to reach parts. But if not, then they will still look fine if you leave them on and mask everything else. The paint I used I got from a speed shop, used maybe 3 or 4 coats and it looks awesome. No chipping or fading and they look real nice. Matches the car color pretty close too.

I painted mine while they were on with duplicolor. It is a pain but you can do it...i put 2 coats ona nd it turned out nice...I moved to maine where theres plenty of snow and they have flaked off....nasty....so if u live where it snows id put moe then 2 coats...its easier and better coverage if u take it off and get a spray gun.
