OZ spring removal
i already know the steps on how to remove the springs and have tried searching for a long time. i try to remove the nut that keeps the sring under the top "mounts" and the rod coming from the strut rotates with the nut and i did use wd-40. i was wondering if there were special tools to keep it from spinning both so i can remove that nut.
sounds like you're not using an impact gun, get one of those, make life much much easier, I wouldn't want to use anything to grip that rod for fear of gouging it and causing a leak in the strut

i haven't used an impact gun yet. the top mount plate rotates with the nut but maybe the impact gun will work. the rod in the middle seems like it has to flat spots for possibly a crescent wrench to grab.
You are correct. If you don't have access to an impact, you need to hold the rod with a wrench or pliers and then loosen the nut. Make sure to use plenty of WD-40. Good luck!

Hell, for that...I just went into Sears (of all places) and had them impact those suckers off real quick. But of course, it does help knowing someone that works there. Good luck.
Well, Sears had a special spring/strut press to clamp together and put down-force on the spring to help with the impact gun taking that bolt off. Though...I really believe all of that wasn't necessary. Anyone else have to use such a press???
that would be a spring compressor, I used one, it's not entirely neccessary tho.
sjl6102 -- if you have the impact gun, you shouldn't need to hold the rod still, as the force of the impact gun should loosen that bolt. Just use something to hold the top plate, like a wrench on one of the studs and against another.
