you can get the manuals on CD on Ebay, or if you want to be hardcore, you can buy the real thing from your Mitsu dealership

EDIT: ok, here's the chunk from the FSM about the blower motor and resistor

Hi,

My wifes Lancer had the first three blower motor speeds fail. Only speed 4 worked. Through a post here that showed the location of the resistor (Its located behind the glove box, and behind the ECU/PCU. Remove the glove box, PCU and there it is).
I removed the resistor, two screws and one connector. The resistor has a warning on top that states " Do not repair ". Well I decided to take it apart after verifying that is was bad. The only problem with the resistor is a long copper tab that has a solder joint that has broken free. I re-soldered the copper tab back into position and now the resistor has the correct ohm values. Also the blower motor now has all four speeds.

Just wanted to pass this along in case anyone wants to save some money.

Nice job bro, pulled mine out this weekend on my Evo 8. Disregarded the "Do Not Repair" label and opened it up. Had nice cool A/C blowing within 15mins, thanks again man...

How do we get the resistor apart?

Facing the same problem as stated above.. New one costs nearly 140 bucks.

I have the resistor in my hand now.. but trying to snap the top of the resistor open to let me do the soldering... but my nose pliers are gouging the Al clips badly.. do we have a specifc tool to open this resistor up??

Any replies would be helpful.. been driving through Indiana's heat wave with no AC ..

Hi Kristar;

Its been awhile since I repaired the blower resistor, but I do remember that there are four ears that hold the circuit board down. By using a pair of needle nose pliers, I was able to close the ears of the four hold down clips that allow you to remove the board and be able to get at the metal tab that has lifted from the assembly. There should be more than enough solder at the point where it lifted to simply resolder it with a good soldering iron. Once resoldered, put everything together, and re-spread the four ears with a thin blade screwdriver to hold everything together again. That should do it. Good Luck, and I hope this helps.
