Launching an auto.
Launching an auto.
Hello all. I just got my car and i looking for advice fir when racing at the strip. what is the best way to launch and actually get good launches? my current times atthe track are 18.2 but thats just leaving it in 1 and flooring it. also What would be better first headers or a throttle body?
From what I hear...if you've got an auto the best way to do it is to keep it in drive, hold down the brake with ur left foot and gently regulate ur revs with the right. Something of that sort.
For the sake of your tranny, dont try to control the shifts yourself. Just keep it in D and go with it.
Since I'm guessing that you're more into dragging, I would recommend the throttle body first as it will give u better response that you're probably looking for.

your best bet is to find a local mechanic to do it, or rrm do a core program thingy on the TB. they also sell IM's
i think its sumwhere around $130 for a mechanic to bore out the TB, i remember someone posting thats what they'd done.

When i launch my auto i do a power brake to 2000 rpm. It seems to be the best way to get a good jump. Remeber 2000rpm isn't to the floor it goes to i think 2500 before you get stoped by the rev limiter.

i know the lancer aint the best but i want it to hang with atleast half the ricers down here. mostly in the 15-16 range until i get my camaro fully restored. I just want my nice car to hang with the rest
I agree with the keep it in D method. If you're trying to regulate your shifting its not doing anything except sounding cool. remember on an auto you're still gonna have that slight delay shifting up. Keep your feet on the brake and the gas, get your rpm's up and drop the brake. Consider yourself launched.
i have a almost stock lancer es(intake) and im running 17.3, what i do is launch from 2000-2500 rpm on 1st then shift up, but b carfull when shifting always shift it about 5500rpm , i did a little experiment at the track if i leave it in d and do the same thing i ran 17.6 . and if i do what you did i ran an 17.8, i think i could of ran better but my car ke[t on burning out to much on take off, needed new tires, oil change , and new plugs
