Accessory Belts Install!
Accessory Belts Install!
Could someone please make a good how to with pictures on how to change the accessory belts? It would be a great help on general maintenance because there are no repair manuals for this car. Thanks!

that's power steering. loosen the tensioner bolt (48959K) inside the bracket there and you can pull the belt right off.
i wasn't able to find a picture of the alternator belt, if you want to do that one i might be able to go snap a few pictures of my lancer.
i can't find the other one in CAPS... it's like they don't even list the alternator belt. maybe i wasn't looking in the right section, heh.
there IS a manual for our car, but it's printed by an aussie company and so naturally it's not even for a US lancer.
anyway, i'll go out to the car and try to snap a few decent photos of the routing of my alternator belt. i've taken off the power steering and A/C belt maybe a thousand times in the past week. it's finally back to normal after i replaced some bolts on the tensioner that were screwed up.

okay, i snapped some photos... got a little washed out by the flash though.
release the tension on the belt with the tensioner:

then loop one end of your belt around the pulley on the alternator:

and then loop the other end around your crank pulley in the channels on the inside--you will need to remove your power steering belt to do this, so if you're replacing belts do this one before putting on a new power steering belt on.

Depends on how much I drive. Back when I was driving 40,000 miles a year, I changed the accessory belts once a year, mostly so I never had to worry about how old they were getting.
Timing belts should be changed at whatever interval your owner's manual specifies. It varies state-by-state. I do mine every 60,000 miles.
And CAPS has the other belt, it's in 14-110. Doesn't show much, though, just a V-belt and two pulleys.
