Question Watching DVD/Video WHILE DRIVING

So for a second the other day, it seemed I was able to watch DVD's for about 5 minutes while driving until it realize the vehicle was moving it cut the display and only played sound. I turned over to the display and it said "This action cannot be performed while driving" or something like that.

I tried a combination of things... it seems whenever the video "codec" or "driver" is being used regardless of its source it cuts the display and keeps the sound.

I tried:

The AUX (below the AC Controllers
The Audio Jack (Right under the Popout Display) Why the hell is it hidden??

I used:
My Zen Vision W (Big enough display, but prefer to watch in dash
iPod Video
Other Zen Products.
Different cables
etc...

My question is this...

Is there a way to bypass, or tweak the system in order to watch DVD's or Video's in the NAVI / Touch Screen monitor while in motion? Im sure it can be done, but just wondering if anyone has already done it ... or is Mitsu-Savvy in this field.

I know there is a bypass module you can buy I belive. If you do this though it it illegal to watch and drive at the same time to my knowledge.

I have also read that you can ground out your ebrake and that may work. I belive that they have it set to when the brake light comes on on your dash the thing will work. I dont know how bad this is but you could pull it up slightly until the light comes on and then it may work. (that would be my last resort though)

the simple grounding method will not work w/ this type of system, especially if you have navi.

BTW, it doesnt matter if you or your passanger is watching it. It is illegal to have any form of distraction such as video playback or other screens infront of the driver or in the drivers sight REGARDLESS of who is watching it.

I honestly think they are suppose to release either headrest or some form of rear screens as there is a place for a rear AV slot in the car and listed as such in the manual. It also states that only the Front Display will be disabled... WHERES MY REAR DISPLAYS MITSU!?!? YOU DIRTY CHEAP.. ahem.. righto then. Carry on

lol... dohboy.... i understand all the laws or crap thats not right with... its not your fault if i get pulled over because a cop noticed my display was streaming, or playing a clip.

I dont mean to sound rude but who the **** cares... everyone nowa days gets away with things, and its not like im going to be watching or excuse me have my passengers watch movies 90% of the time. It would be convient for them for long trips. Besides, I wouldnt want to modify my headrests and convert it to displays. If anything I think thats! more distraction for OTHEr drivers...

the point is, I need info on how or if its even possible to bypass it. Im not here to point fingers, or talk about breaking laws.

no offense.

lol None taken im in complete agreeance, but you said "its for my passangers" as if that was legal ya know? just reiterating the legalness. I too hope there is a bypass or atleast headrest set ups in the near future so i can put my 360 and such in there <3

the navi has gyros built into it to sense movement. not only that, but the satellites that track your car will know that you are moving. that's the basics on how it wont work. unless there is some kind of bypass, i dont think it will happen. *has fingers crossed though*

Dohboy,
Ya, id rather keep my 360 in the house, or garage. But if you do ever set that up, I would love to see a thread formulated. GL if any.

nice info webslinginwr22. I figured there was something in relation to gyros seeing that it picked up my movement with in minutes (amazingly) and apparently it was when I slowed down for a redlight...

good good tip. Now minds are revolving around this topic... those of you who love and know how to tweak NAVI's or have experience reading wiring diagrams!!! I hope a door opens with the answer, if not....

... sniffle* oh well. Haha

If Im not mistaken the bypass trick does work on aftermarket Navi-systems, I have read many reviews on different systems from different brands and people asking the same question and people that have tried it claim it works, but that is aftermarket systems vs. stock components, so who knows until you try it

I could have sworn there was a thread on this telling how to do it. I can't find it though. But if they have a A/V in the back, where is it? I wouldnt mind putting a monitor back there for passengers, I never noticed there was one.

there are ways around it w/ dvd systems and older navi, but w/ most new stuff it's very tough. the only thing i can think of is if our lancers are prewired for having rear screens, and if we can tap into that tricking it into thinking it's playing on the rear screen. but who knows?
