Does anyone know the CALIFORNIA law about Screens in cars?
Does anyone know what the California state law is about riding around with a dvd screen open, all i want to do is have it open while I drive or displaying an Eq or possible a music video...
Screens in the car cannot be visible to the driver for entertainment purposes (Music, Videos). If the screen is primarily used for navigational purposes, then it is allowed. That's what I have been told.

well how about this, I'm driving with the screen open, but only as a menu, like a normal high end radio would have where u would only look at it to change channels and so forth, or if I have my HKS CAMP system running (gauges)... Nav will be in the future but i'll need to pay the screen off first
All I wanna do is ride with the screen open so i can see whats playing... No graphics bouncing around or anything...

dood, cops really dont care unless u cause an accident or something. I dont recommend even looking @ the screen cuz that's pretty dangerous. I am against having screens visible to the driver, whether it be navigation or video or even a menu. They tend to be a real big distraction regardless of what is on the screen.
My friend has a dvd player and in dash screen and he says it is really distracting whenever he is playing anything besides just a cd where it shows the equalizer. Nothing is illegal unless you get caught remember that

Same here. Not distracting anymore.
I have an Alpine IVA-C801 unit; when a CD is playing all that is displayed is the CD and track info. It got boring quick.
I also have a PS2 installed, but nobody is allowed to play while we're in motion. It's mostly there for car show use.
I have a 2hr replay of GT3, with the Evo running the Rome endurance circuit. A yellow one, of course, just like mine...

I jsut ask a local COP, a friend, he said there is no law set on it only thing that can't be playing is a movie. It can be open and used as a menu but no graphic movement. I was also told that NAV is ok because factory's are installing them so I guess it to isn't a big issue.
