Plastic bag over the sri filter and have at it! Just use a squeeze bottle to rinse though...no need to hose the motor down and cause problems.

I've heard that the best way is to clean your engine when it's running.

To clean my car I'm using rim cleaner mixed with water (like 30/70). Works VERY well on the body, it should work fine with engine as well but don't put too much whell cleaner, it can be corrosive.

just a simple diluted degreaser works fine. i also just hose it right off. ive been cleaning my engine like this for 5 years now with no problems. it probably is better to clean it while running, just incase you do get any water into the combustion chamber it will burn off instantly. just make sure you wash it right after you start the car, before the engine gets hot.

I said IT's corrosive but if you mix it with water it's perfectly fine
When I have big stuffs to clean up (like the bumper around the exhaust tip), I use a mix of water + rim cleaner. It works very well.
I just rinse the bumper afterwards with pure water

i just got done cleanin mine a few mins ago. all i did was spray the entire can of engine degreaser and went nuts w/ it avoiding only the alternator and air filter. then i let it sit for a few then wiped it down and scrubbed some corners down. afterwards i just started it up and let it run until it got hot. i waited til the smoke cleared and it was done...clean

You can buy some degreaser or steam clean it, but if it's not too bad, just use some mild cleaner and wipe it down. Once it's clean, clean it regularly. Mine never gets dirty because I always clean the engine bay. Sounds stupid, but I always get compliments!

It looks good

In the mean time, I've found some pictures. (25% rim cleaner, 75% water)

Before

During clean up
