16, 08 gts!

Well ive been 16 since september 4th and ive gone through many car ideas and i finally found one that is perfect, safe, cool, FWD (here in IL rwd is a mess in the winter), cheap, and something my dad likes. in spring im getting a Lancer GTS.

but now i have some questions. (prolly noob questions, but i do know alot about cars and ive worked on lots of them. like changed cams n pistons n stuff)

so my question is, what does and dosent void warranty?

like i wanted an exhaust system (headers and all, the whole system)
some electric cutouts(before cats)
i wanted to get a EVO hood and spoiler when the evo comes out. and an evo body kit
maby a turbo when i get some money
i like the gts rims but might get some new rims

so what can i get that will not void warranty?

Since most people have ignored you, let's see if I can help you out. First, congrats on the new car! Take care of it... Be Smart, don't street race.

CARB Legal Intake should be fine (AEM or Injen etc)
CatBack Exhaust should be fine too

Any modifications to the internals will VOID your warranty, so CAMS are out.
ECU modifications are out too.

Basically Intake Headers Exhaust is standard, not even sure about Headers. You should check with your local Mitsubishi dealer. It varies from Dealer to Dealer and overall the Manuf. makes the call.

Ok legally the only way they can void the warranty, is if and when something breaks they have to PROVE that whatever mod you made to the car caused that something to break....

You don't understand mitsubishi warranties then. They will RAPE you any chance they get. It is simple economics, they don't want to do work if they don't need to. They will blame it on the mod and refuse service, then you will have to take THEM to court and blah blah. BOTTOM LINE: MITSU WARRANTY IS WORTH CRAP IF YOU MODIFY YOUR CAR.

body kit shouldnt void warrnety.

pretty much everything has been covered in above posts.

if something goes wrong, and the mod caused it = no warrenty(ie if u lower is and blow a piston, u should still have a warrenty) (intake and header back exhaust and u blow a piston, u may have a really hard time getting it covered)

ok then. so heres my idears in order of what im going to do (i think)

1. GT rally headlights ( http://www.headlightarmor.com/index....OD&ProdID=1537 )

2. exhaust system with exhaust cutouts (before cat.)

3. evo hood (possibly painted CF, dont like to have un painted CF unless car is black)

4. evo body kit

5. dunno, any suggestions that are good and dont void warranty guys?

1. Your link goes to headlight film. That is perfectly fine with your warranty.

2. If your motor goes, they won't fix it. Also, an exhaust cutout before the cat is going to be a BAD idea. You're going to cause a Check Engine Light to come on because the 2nd O2 sensor is going to notice the difference. Also, bear in mind that this is a Lancer, not a Camaro. Exhaust cutouts sound like crap on a 2L economy motor...

3. Not even sure if it'll fit. RRM does make a CF hood with the Evo cutouts. Might be worth checking into. The only way it would void your warranty is if something came in the holes in the hood and damaged the motor.

4. What, off a stock Evo? Or a lookalike? That would only damage the warranty if it caused a problem somehow.

5. What do you want to hear? The car is still brand new, there's barely any modifications available. Hell, you can't even buy a catback yet.

In the end, you get the same old answer: if the modification CAUSES the problem, your warranty won't cover it. So modify your car knowing that something COULD go wrong (or not). And that if something DOES go wrong, you're screwed.

It's the same game as any other car. You're taking a chance by modifying the car. If something goes wrong, you're paying the bills. If nothing goes wrong, then all is good.

My honest opinion - leave the damn car alone. You're 16. You should seriously focus on learning and getting used to your new car. If you take up AutoCross (that's where they race around in parking lots with cones), any good racer will tell you that you should start out racing your car stock. That way, you learn what the car can and cannot do. Then, if you decide the car needs to be modified to perform better, you do it. Right now, you seem to be looking at modifying the car just for the sake of it.

well I'm getting straight As and most of the things I'm going to start doing is just for looks. I'm going to take a year at least before modifying engine stuff. but i do take my dads 92 vette to the track all the time . street racing=bad. but i see your total reasoning behind everything.

BTW nice camaro!

Thanks. Although I let my dad borrow it for a car show this weekend and got a phonecall saying that it left a lot of oil on the roads between Cleveland and Cincinatti.

When I said "focus on learning", I wasn't talking about your GPA. I was talking about "learning the car" - understanding the car reacts, getting used to how it handles in different weather conditions, etc.

Visual mods are always good. Once the X comes out, we'll all have a better idea of what fits on the Lancer. Then the real fun begins.

yea. ive taken your statement into thought and i know what im gonna do, for the time being.

front wind splitter - http://www.aprperformance.com/index....d=76&Itemid=49

rear diffuser - http://www.aprperformance.com/index....d=69&Itemid=47

spoiler - http://www.aprperformance.com/index....d=33&Itemid=44

flex control bar(maby) - http://www.aprperformance.com/index....=112&Itemid=53

cusstom intake and exhaust (not from rrm)

electric cutouts(prolly not from this guy, cant find the exact link) - http://www.speedunlimited.com/cgi-bi...l?p_catid=3904
GT yellow headlights - http://www.headlightarmor.com/index....OD&ProdID=1537

evo hood - http://www.bodykits.com/store/produc...at=5347&page=1

then over time a evo body kit - http://www.bodykits.com/store/produc...at=4717&page=1
http://www.bodykits.com/store/produc...at=4717&page=1

the above is in no general order, but what do you think?

im planning on keeping this car for a while, and eventually doing some road racing with it (the legal kind)

Obviously you're an APR fan - what's your plan? Buy parts for the Evo and rig them onto your car? Or wait for a CY4A application?

I am in no way bashing Accolade, but I would personally not purchase the Evo hood or kit from them. Not saying any more than that.

Custom exhaust should be easy. Custom intake is fine, but make sure it doesn't lead to CEL (it took RRM 3 tries to get it right).

I already said my thoughts about electric cutouts on 2L cars, but it's your car, so that's that.

Otherwise, seems like a fine plan. Do it the way you like it.

yea. i like APR

well depending how much money i have at the time and how impatient i am i will be calling my local speed shop to see if they can help me rig the evo one, or call APR and make me a custom one. or just wait. prolly will wait though.

Wat i meant for the custom intake i would wait for like a K&N one or something.

if the cut outs sound like crap ill put them on my dads 300c hemi!

hood would either be from the real car when its out or just get the same one as o8lancer89. his looks GREAT!

will post how tos on everything and what not when the time comes ETA: summer or fall 2008
