Ok, so I'm looking into a better way to bypassing the DRL. What I came up with was to bypass the ecu completely and go to the light switch. Its pretty easy to just isolate the switch and tap out, but im not sure on any warning errors. You could also just tap out and not worry about isolating it. but when I go to the service manual to check the switch, lo and behold ******* omitted the continuity check for the light switch, but the one for the windshield wipers is there.............

Has anyone found the pinout for the lightswitch connector? I found the windshield wiper one in the chassis electrical troubleshooting area.

thanks in advance

Would directly installing an HID kit to the OEM housing burn out the housing or can the OEM housing handle the current for the HID kit?

If you mean running it off the car's electrical, don't even consider that. No professional (or person in their right mind) would run an aftermarket HID kit off a vehicle's electrical system if the car wasn't designed from the get-go to have a HID headlamp assembly.

While there is the Evo-X MR and other Lancers across the pond that have HIDs, it may not be for certain that they share the same electrics.
Do it off the battery and you won't have to worry about a large hole suddenly developing in the middle of the hood with flames shooting out.
At least, you won't if the install is done proper.

Does anybody know if a IRF520 will accomplish the same job as an IRF510 in the DRL bypass? Finding a 510 in this city proved impossible, ordering it from the states would take weeks, and digikey is insane with a standard shipping charge. Of course, I'll probably bite on it anyway, but I have a couple of 520s kicking around -- I just don't know enough about the required signal for the DRL.

Technically you could wire the HID system with bypassing the the ECU, but this would require relays. In the same light, doing it the old way everyone has been doing would be the same effort. Plus you might throw some check ECU codes by bypassing it. But good thought.

Ya it woulda been nice to bypass it completely, but when i took out the light switch i got kinda stuck. from what i could see, the switch is directly tied into the ecu. the entire thing is one package and i didnt want to try to disassemble it ne farther cuz i was afraid of breaking the switch. so there goes that idea.

i had to remove my hids cuz they were acting up, but if i get a chance to play around with them again i think im just gonna do the parking light bypass

I just got a relay harness from dxhid and it works with the drls without any flickering. Took a few minutes to install and works great. Here is a pic of what the harness looks like.

Is this kit all plug and play or does it require wire slicing?

damn so there is no way to have HIDs in place and run em just like regular lights
1: OFF nd low power DRL
2: Side markers (parking) and still low power DRL
3: Full power

i guess even if the HIDs came on full power in 1 position and would turn off when car is in the handbrake position
is that possible i like not having to turn on the lights on and off during the day and love the DRL feature
