Well,

I bought my 03 oz rally in june at a used dealer and it was missng the knob that turns to the AC or Heat. It happened to be turned to the side of the cold,thsnk God. So summer was no problem,well winter is coming on and i took it into dealer,got a knob but the knob was loose,wouldnt go on, so today they tell me that its because that middle part that it goes onto is brke off and that theyd have to tear dash apart and replace the whole unit and bla bla bla. Said theres a bulletin out on it..

I dont have $1000 laying around..any suggestions besides freezin?

Other piece of advice: Learn from your lesson here... When buying a used car, inspect everything and make them sign a contract fixing everything that's currently wrong with the car... If I didn't do that, I'd be out over 3k on the Porsche... And they weren't about to tell me about any of the problems either. If they want to sell the car enough, they'll fork out the money, if not, they'll sell it to the next sorry sap who'll have to deal with the problems out of their own pocket.

 

that should work even though its 06? Is it hard to take off and install?

its realy easy to install them!!
just take out knobs 2 screws then pull old one off and put new one on then conecct the wires on the back and close it back up again and ur done!!

Hey I had the same exact problem with this, so allow me to tell you this story which may offer a solution to you. I bought an 04 oz rally in may and i didnt notice that the a/c lever is sticky / stuck on the "cold" till this past sept. winter came and i realized that i cant move the dang thing to "heat. i went back to the dealer, and they told me that its a very common prob with all lancer year 02-05 or 06 i forgot what exat yr he said. Fortunately its still covered under 5yrs bumper to bumper warranty and they had to replace the entire console, not only the knob. I guess thats the reason they're tyring to charge u $800, its for the entire consoloe. They also told me that they had to rewire eveyrthing into the a/c, that's why there's labor charge there. I paid nothing bcs of that warranty that is still in effect. So moral of the story is: 1.) check if you still have 5yrs bumper to bumper. Go to a mitsu dealer not the place u bought the car from. Any mitsu dealer is fine. You said that its an 03, so u still might (depending on ur mileage - mine was 30k so i was way below the 60k threshold), this is 07. And dont buy the b/s when dealer told u that ur warranty expires and that u need "extended" warranty for that or that the original 5yr warranty does not extend to 2nd hand owner. NO. the warranty is STRAIGHT FROM MITSUBISHI MOTORS NORTH AMERICA dealr has nothing to do with it but to honor that. They tried to play that too but i threatened them to take it to BBB plus reporting it to Mitsubishi NA. 2) if ur not eligible for that B-T-B warranty try to see if you can buy an extended warranty from the dealer/the place u bought the car from. It's prob gonna be around $2000 to buy that but you know what? it's worth it. You'll get a refreshed warranty of aorund 7 yrs. 3) if everything else fails go with the ebay option or if you dont win it, go to your trusted mech and ask him if he can help source you a used console for that. Most mechanics have hookups that enable them to get parts easier than u can do yourself. If you want i can give u my mechanic number he specializes in mitsu althou he is in CA but hey, there are shipping. good luck.
