Umm, I had that on for about 5 miles before... I do however wonder the same, I'm guessing it's probably about a gallon or 20-25 miles.

Think if you are traveling on the interstate, it comes on, I'd hope that would have thought about you having to get to an exit and a gas station.

First time it comes on, you have 3 gallons.
Second time it comes on, you have 2 gallons.

You're fine.

 

Agree with blacksheep -- I tested this myself, too. The first warning the fuel icon blinks slowly, the second warning the fuel warning icon blinks really fast. There's so much warning its practically impossible to run out of gas

 

I was amazed when I first learned it was 3 and 2 gallons. I got the 2nd warning and I was sure the car was near-empty. Then I hit the pump and put in 13.5 in a 15.5 tank. And I've repeated the "test" many times (I hate getting gas!) and it's always 3 and 2.

 

Yeah Mitsu has put in a ton of safety margin into that warning, its very conservative.

 

Most of cars have these kinds of safe.
I had mazda, geo, volvo, all of them was able to do about 100km when fuel light came on. So I don't really think you should worry that much

 

How many miles are you all getting before refueling? I have a GTS and so far I've ran 310 miles and I still have 40-50 miles left according to the guage, never got a re-fuel light yet.

 

I don't think mine ever makes it over 290. I filled it all the way up today and it says 290. Granted, I don't really stare at that display after I refuel.

 

My last tank I got 355 before I fueled up.

 

I consistantly get 320+ miles of city driving before refueling. Road trips at highway speeds (60mph, NOT 75mph) I can very easily break 400. The first low fuel warning comes on just under "30 miles remaining"... which is probably more like 50-60 miles remaining in reality... hah

 

Yeah, I noticed I'm an idiot... I just refueled my car and I checked that thing again and it does say 360 remaining (after me driving all around town and back home).

 

after i refuel ill get 320 miles, yay? haha

 

Once you get to that 2nd warning you better fuel up soon. I actually ran outta gas once, tryin to push it.
