Lancer warranty

hey guys

im currently spending some time studying up on mods to put into my car but the conflict with my warranty comes up. i dont want to blow the warranty b/c thats a fat waste of money since i bought the car brand new.
basically what parts should i stay away from so that i dont void my warranty? im looking at getting the injen CAI, a custom made exhaust from an exhaust specialist shop, TWM short shifter, and lowering springs... these are the only performance driven mods im looking at... would any of these void my warranty? all would be professionally installed btw.

thanks

yeah i bought mine in july 2007 and had the same questions... I think they will void the warranty but im sure others will comment too.

I plan on ordering the GTS body kit, fog lamps, get it tinted professionally and get some nice 18 inch wheels and tires.

I still dont know what wheels or tires to get.

By the way, WORKS has the best springs for lowering our cars.

Once you start putting stuff in your car, you will def meet a lot of resistance with the warranty. The CAI won't matter, just keep the stock one and if the engine acts up swap it out and bring it in. The exaust would probably end up voiding part of your warranty on the engine because you have altered the "configuration" of the car. The lowering springs would technically void the suspension warranty. Not sure on the short shifter.

Not to discourage you at all from modding your car. I plan on getting the megan coilovers next year, and probably redoing the brakes for something better. Right now I'm waiting for the fog light kit from mobile hid and putting those in next week with the short shifter hopefully.

ah ic ic

i was under the impression that a part can only void your warranty if its the direct problem with your car and that the CAI and exhaust are the safest ways to go in terms of mods but i guess thats not the case

It's up to the specific dealer if they'll void it. They could be real ****** and tie in a CAI into a rear suspension problem and void it altogether.

please stop messing with everyones head. a CAI and exhaust will not void your warranty unless the point of failure relates to the item installed. for example 1. hydrolocked engine, well I wonder what happend there. CAI, not covered under warranty, even the stock one wouldnt be covered actually.

An engine fails / seizes up or something, its really hard to tie that to an aftermarket bolt on part. your Emissions control equipment will trigger a check engine light before the car comes close to failing.

Most cars, not all but most cars, run fine. most problems occur due to user error, lax maintaince, or stupid behaviour.

If some dealer wants to threaten you with warranty crap, PM me, I would love to hear it, if its a legit case, I will lobby Mitsu HQ myself and power driver someone

I don't mean to mess with neone's head. I'm just reiterating what the guy at the dealer told me. He said pretty much do what you want, but if you need to bring it in for warranty put the stock stuff back in to be on the safe side. And if for some reason you could hydrolock your engine with the stock intake, I don't see how they could void warranty. If its something wrong with their stock setup they should fix it, and if its a design failure, they should recall it.

it highly depends on the dealership. However, most won't install after market parts. There are a few out there that will, but I don't know which ones those are.

You're better off doing it yourself or paying a private mechanic to do it.

We're fortunate enough to have our 2 dealers installing RRM products on our cars, and have been told they wont affect warranty because they installed them there.
Could be BS, but a it was technically a verbal contract when asked if they will cover warranty on products they've installed.

verbal means nothing in court. But if they installed it, that is enough to prove your case.
