using normal key to start the engine
The key in the back of the FOB is for emergencies only. You have to use it in conjunction with the FOB otherwise the alarm will go off and the car won't start. If you're trying to give someone else a key that isn't the FOB, I would suggest going to the dealer and trying to get a Valet key made.
actually i have a different scenario, I go diving often, so I'd like to lock the car and take the key with me, with the KOS system I can't take the key with me, but i can take the emergency key
any one know what happens if i remove the battery? will it require reprogramming?

how can't you take the KOS key with you? It just a key, the emergency key is just a peice of aluminum which is worthless with out the KOS.
I don't think the key needs reprogramming if you pull the battery. It's made so that you can change the battery when it's dead without having to go to the dealer.

i don't get what the question is here. Just treat the key FOB (the black thingy with the buttons that the emergency manual key clicks into) like a normal key. Why can't you take it with you? you can leave the "electronic" part behind if you want but that's like leaving your keys in the ignition. I'm confused....

ok I just discovered if u take the metallic key out and leave the "electronic part" inside the car, the car will let u lock it with the metallic key and will disable the KOS system so if someone puts his hand it won't unlock until u unlock with normal key and slide the key again into the electronic part, interesting discovery
Not sure what some people are talking about here, but to answer the OP, yes you can start the car with the "traditional key." If you have the "knob" on your ignition, squeeze the two little buttons on either side of it and pull it off. This will reveal a traditional keyhole in the ignition. Then you can just start the car.
I don't see the advantage to this considering the doors open with a touch of the handle and the knob only requires that the fob be in the car (or around/near it) for it to start. It seem counter-intutive to circumvent the ease of use of the system for a traditional key-in-ignition setup.

I understand, you go diving so the metal key is fine in your diving suit, but you can't take the electronic part...
So yes, leave the key fob in the car, lock the drivers door with the manual key. Dive, come back, unlock the car with the manual key. Insert in key fob and drive away. The car will not unlock with the key fob inside when you locked it with the manual key. The car senses where the key location is. Ex., try locking the key in your trunk with the doors locked. It will sense that it is in the truck with all doors locked and unlock the drivers door. When you open the door, the alarm will go off, but you didn't lock yourself out. So it senses it is inside the trunk. This will not happen if you lock it inside the cabin with the manual key, nor allow someone to touch the door handle to unlock.
