How to remove rear view mirror?

I'm embarrassed to ask this question, but how does one remove the rear view mirror from an '08 Lancer? Basically, I'm afraid of breaking something, so I may as well ask.

There is a slot on the underside of the mount. I played around for a minute sticking a flat-blade screwdriver in there, but I did not have any success finding a tab to release the mount from the windshield.

Any advice?

I think it is just glued on really tight. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Try twisting the mount, but I do not believe it is one piece. If it wasn't so cold outside, i would go try it right now lol

Most of the cars I've owned in the past have a metal piece glued onto the inside of the windshield. The mirror has a plastic mount that slides over metal piece. There is then some tab that must be pushed/pulled to release the plastic mount from the metal piece. I'm assuming this is the case for my Lancer, but I can't tell. I'm afraid to just go and twist anything, for fear of breaking either the mirror mount or (God forbid) the windshield.

I appreciate the help. However, maybe I just need to drive over to my dealer.

I want to install a Gentex mirror with the Homelink system. I currently have a garage door opener and a gate opener stuck to my sun visor. I'm very **** retentive and don't like the remotes hanging there!

The little plastic piece will come down by twisting and pulling down. After that it looks like there is a tab there that you can push and the mirror should pop off. If you are installing a new mirror, doesn't it already come with a metal tab to glue to the window? If it does I would think you are going to need to pull the current mirror completely off of the windshield and put the new tab on.
